I wish I could give this a mixed review instead of a thumbs up, but it's definitely not that bad of a game so it doesn't deserve a thumbs down. First, if your graphics driver is out of date, expect this game to crash randomly a LOT. I didn't figure that out until about 20 hours into the game, and I had barely any resources online telling me otherwise. On to the game...

It's a little annoying, but the gameplay is fun. I really enjoyed steep and was hoping that this would live up to its reputation, but there's a lot of things missing from steep that didn't carry over here which I really don't understand. In Steep, you progressively gained money to buy your character different boards or skis, jackets, hats, etc. A lot of the equipment wasn't behind a paywall that's also extremely limited depending on what's being sold that week in the shop. Everything was there, and if it wasn't you had to unlock it. I truly enjoyed that about steep because I could even change the different boots I had on my board, rather than a complete set. I hate that they changed that system into this, where all of your gear is ranked and some gear are more obviously better than others, creating a meta that top players would use just to get the fastest times instead of showcasing pure skill.

Second, graphics are worse in riders republic than steep. I don't even know how that's possible, but the snow trails that players would leave in deep snow don't even show that well in this game compared to steep. It's obvious that the game was made half-assed with the intention of living up to steep, but doesn't even bother to retain some of the best parts about it.

Lastly, like many other Ubisoft games now, the unskippable dialogue and cringeworthy writing is terrible. Everything is supersaturated like some sort of advertisement for a hot wheels game. Ubisoft has a very unclear target demographic for this game since it fails to master the racing and extreme components to the hardcore players, and fails to make it arcadey for the kids. It has a little bit of an identity crisis, but hey, that's most of Ubisofts games nowadays.

As an aspiring game developer who wants to enter Ubisoft's NEXT competition for upcoming developers to win an internship there, man I don't know about working for them someday. I'm giving this a generous 7/10 only because I love MTB and Snowboard racing in real life.
