This "game" was orginally intended as a Sandbox for future EverQuest ideas. buildings, and so forth.
It subsequently was abandoned by SoE(Now known as Day Break Studios) in favor of EverQuest Next, only for that game to become cancelled, having them come back to "Landmark" and trying to scrap some of the lost cash in the investment.
Inside you'll find:
• Digging: This actually is one of LM's better features, as the digging in this game is pretty amazing at first, letting you take whole circular chunks out of the landscape, and having it deform realistically. Like minecraft, you upgrade your pick to gain better resources as you go along.
• Building: Argueably the best feature is building. Want a Marble house? you can have that. Want playboy mansion complete with pool? Go for it. There almost no limit to the stuff you can build, but sadly now its pretty much there for decoration. Also Cash shop. Its been there since the beginning and sells amazing blocks you cant exactly get in game, bit of a scam if you ask me.
• PvE/PvP: Yes for some incredibly stupid reason, someone thought LM needed a PvP aspect. Luckily its pretty barebones, and has to be activated via plot. This has led to some nerfs on awesome thigns like grappling hooks for the sake of "Balance" that nobody asked for. Theres monsters strewn about the world, that are about as threatening as a popcorn fart, hell bent on being just the most annoying thing you can imagine while running through the world, digging or otherwise enjoying yourself.
• Guilds and Community features: This game has builder's guilds and so much, I didnt really dabble in this although I imagine its not very far from your average MMO approach. If you build something really "cool" they will put your building in golden realm where everyone can go visit, making it last forever and gainign a bit of personal prestige.

All in All LandMark wouldnt be -that- bad if the studio attached to it actually had a decent plan or roadmap for the game. As I see it now they are just milking it for what they can, as they lick the wounds for EQN.
