Amazing value. Tons of content and plenty of fun games. Can't wait to cherry them all.

I tried to like this game, I really enjoyed the setting, but unfortunately there are too many game design mistakes in Fear & Hunger for me to ignore.
Put simply, plenty of games manage to be hard and challenging without being frustrating - this one is simply unfair.

At its core, once you go beyond the veil of its atmosphere, you quickly realize that Fear & Hunger is just trial and error tedium until you learn all the quirks of the game. There is nothing to "master" here, you just make mistakes, die, reload saves, get screwed by RNG, until you cheat your way in once you realize which items actually help you, which interactions you must avoid, which routes not to take, and so on. But the only way to realize all of this is through frustrating and simply not fun trial and error (unless you read a guide, which would ruin the misteries, surprises, and eerie vibes of the game). Besides, the game throws at you plenty of RNG just to "spice" things up, including loot which may permanently ruin a run and poweful enemy attacks you sometimes just don't avoid, making you reload again and again.

You may find the experience fun, trying to bash your head against RNG and run-ending things you simply cannot know about beforehand. Then, perhaps, you could enjoy it. It is certainly unique, but I wouldn't praise the game just for this simple fact. In fact, I think the constant reloading and trying to quantum immortal your way in the game just completely ruins the immersion.

Maybe the sequel fixed many of its mistakes, but I'm not in the mood of finding out for now.

Who the hell can I recommend this to?

EDIT 2025: Woah, nevermind actually. I can't recommend this anymore. The author is going against their own message. Don't buy this disingenuous pile of words.
