I absolutelly love this game its so great in so many ways but I can't as of right now sadly recommend friend pass or co-op because of one minor and two major things :
1 : co-op partner cannot pass moth gates by themselves and in some places before minibosses there is a moth gate that cannot be passed quite a bit before which to circumvent the co-op partner has to run away as far as possible to get teleported to host
now onto the major things :
2 co-op partner cannot interact with the npc talk button wich prevents them from turning in quest items and therefore getting any rewards from them as well as most notably being fully unable to access the boss weapon shot because it is locked behind a dialogue option which the co-op partner cannot trigger the only workaround is to make your partner give you their currency and you drop the loot for them which sadly does not work for spells as they sadly cannot be dropped
3 This one is a big big stinker for friend pass users : co-op partner cannot see or pickup healing item upgrades and lamp upgrades therefore being stuck on one soulflay and 4 heals with 20 percent regen the ENTIRE game if they use friend pass I really hope these are all oversights or bugs and can be fixed as soon as possible because this game is amazing and I love so much of it also one last thing that is probly an unintended exploit the co-op partner still gets seeds to plant those "checkpoints" but cannot use them wich basically duplicates them since they can drop them for the host and might make that ressource a bit less limited I hope this helps people who are on the fence to play it with a friendpass friend so until then I would say wait I will of course modify this review if things get changed

To fix the 3rd issue you need to set a password found in multiplayer settings, then as host start beckoning player not friend. The person joining then needs to have the same password and go to a vestige and select join shared progression.

this makes it so, as the name suggest, you share progression. While in this mode whenever one of you grab an item that upgrades your heal/lantern you both get one, meaning you can both level those items.

only downside is the host likely has to start a new game so you can get every item again. Also you cant have progressed to far before joining this way, since the game considers the person joining as just having completed the tutorial, no matter how far you've truly progressed.
