Since the game runs well for me now, I'm editing my review.

Rather than a negative review because it doesn't run well, I'm giving it a negative review because I don't like the game.

I bought this to play with my friends, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to like it coming into it, so I'm not blaming the devs, this just doesn't fit my preference.

I hate open world games. I'd rather have a well crafted level than a bunch of random stuff spread throughout a mostly boring and lifeless world. I was hoping Fromsoft's world would be more.. interesting, but I've spent a few hours in the first area and it's... really boring.

I might play it with friends, but I can literally do nothing and just chat with my friends and have a good time, so enjoying playing a game with them doesn't mean I like the game.

Final Fantasy 5 is my favorite game in the series, and this is pretty much just another version of it, so I'd recommend it. That said, I wouldn't say it's my favorite version of the game.

While the music is great, it has a lot of stuttering which can feel awkward at times. It also lacks the added GBA content, which imo isn't great but it's still a bit sad not to have it. The auto-battle function is nice, though.

I liked the game at first, but eventually it got to the point that some enemies could one shot any of my party members except the tank. It's not like I was neglecting defense either, I put in at least 2 points in defense every level and I was still getting one shot by some enemies, and two shot by most others. Every battle felt like it was up to RNG after a certain point.

I could reset my stats to stack defense, but then the battles would take forever due to my lower stats, and that just means I'd have to take those powerful attacks even more often in each encounter.

This is, to me, the best version of this game out there right now. I've played the NES, PS1, and GBA versions of it.

The leveling system for weapons is simplified (arguably too simplified if you ask me), the music sounds great, and the auto-save is a very nice feature to help combat the large amount of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game throws at you.

I don't know if it works like this in this version but in previous games your chance to be ambushed was determined by Firion's Agility, and even with 90+ agility I was regularly getting ambushed. That in itself isn't a problem, the problem is when you factor in the game's other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Any enemy that can inflict a status ailment on hit has a 100% chance to do so. So when you're ambushed by a group of enemies with status ailments, it can be a situation where you're simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥. This happened to me at least 10 times, with ambushes that nearly led to me being killed due to simple bad RNG happened many more times than that. In the final dungeon alone I died 3 times to ambushes from enemies who had a 100% chance to instantly kill you on hit.

Leveling Magic is about as easy as it is in the GBA version, which is to say it's still a pain. I know there are cheese strats but unless you look them up you're unlikely to stumble onto them (and I didn't want to use a guide for cheese strats). So without cheese strats magic was mostly worthless. Early on it was ok against some enemies, but late game I used 4 spells: Cure, Esuna, Haste, and Berserk.

I enjoyed my time maybe halfway into the game, but after that it was tedious. I only beat the game because I'm stubborn and like to beat all the versions of Final Fantasy games. If you feel the need to beat a version of FF2, this is the easiest one, but that's the only real praise I can give it.

If you are a huge JRPG fan, or fan of Final Fantasy, I'd recommend you play the PSP version of this. If you can't get hold of it (and don't wish to emulate) then ehh, I guess.

To anyone else, I wouldn't really recommend it. It's poorly balanced and even though it's a streamlined version of the game it somehow felt like it dragged on even more. I beat it mostly because I feel obligated to beat all copies of Final Fantasy games I own, and while I won't say I didn't enjoy some of it, overall it wasn't great.

I played for a bit over 80 hours and I had an alright time I guess, I got to the Final Boss and did a bit of the postgame before losing interest, but the only reason I made it that far is because I had friends to play with.

Don't get me wrong, any new monster or challenge I always did solo first to make sure I could, I just did the grinding with friends. However past a certain point I realize, what am I even grinding for? I might like 2% stronger if I can get this new skill, but I don't need it, most of the content isn't that difficult, and the difficult fights are usually more tedious than challenging. Still, I had a decent time until I lost interest, so for that I recommend it.

I actually love grinding in video games, it's a great way to zone out and relax, but with Monster Hunter the fights were challenging enough that I couldn't relax but not so challenging it was enjoyable. With friends to grind with, it was alright, but without them I'd have dropped the game much sooner.

Early Access Review
For the current price, this game is totally worth it. If you're like me you hesitate to buy early access games because you're worried about the game halting development, but even if this game stopped development it would still be worth the current price; it'd be worth a fair bit more and I say this as someone who never buys games at full price!

It's very fun, the gunplay is solid and the gameplay is fairly well balanced. It could be considered a bit on the easy side admittedly, but for those like me who aren't very good at FPS you can still beat it solo; but of course to me the real draw is playing with friends!

I actually bought this game for a friend because I wanted more friends to play it with. Also to be clear: yes I am a furry, and yes I was drawn in by the presence of anthropomorphic characters, but this does not affect my judgment on the game itself.

This is the least idle 'Idle game' I've played.

You gain basically nothing for being offline, just a pittance of gold, which has almost no value in the long run. This means you have to leave it open all the time, and even then your progress basically halts if you don't constantly check in on it.

It's not necessarily bad, but I like idle games where I might just check in on it once or twice a day. Do that with this game and you'd make almost no progress.

As a Port: The game runs kinda shoddily, even on a fairly decent computer (and let's be honest, you shouldn't even need 'fairly decent' for a PS1 game). I had a few crashes, notably one on the final boss fight.

The speed-up function was nice, but it was incredibly random. I could be on the same screen and it'd go from no speed-up at all then suddenly nyoom at like a 4x boost with no warning, it also did this during combat which could sometimes lead to hitting the wrong command.

Frankly it runs much better on an emulator. The cheats are nice if you want to use them I guess, for me the steam achievements just gave me an excuse to run through the game again.

As a game: It's honestly a broken mess, in terms of gameplay. I'm one of the few who likes the mess, and I only recommend the game if you also like breaking games. The junction system allows you to steamroll the entire game if you know what you're doing (hint: Cards) and the limit break system is horribly broken even if you DON'T know how to abuse it (Hint: Don't use a finisher for Zell). The leveling system for enemies pretty much punishes you for leveling up, though it's not like the game is hard even at level 99.

I only barely recommend it, I think I'm being influenced by nostalgia honestly.

A great JRPG with fun gameplay, great characters, and an amazing story. Definitely play the first chapter first since this is a direct sequel, but that's fine since the first chapter is fun too! This one is better though, I'd definitely rate it as the top game from the Trails in the Sky trilogy.

Highly recommend, A++
