Played 3.1 hours, wanted this game to be good, gave it a solid and fair shot. It can be summarized in these words.

The Last Desperation: 0 RISK, 0 REWARD.

Originally posted by Another Company Who Ruined Their Game:

This game is gonna go about as well as that one did fwiw. I am legit salty/upset this game isnt good. I should have expected this though.

Before we start, one big thing.

WARNING MTX HELL.

To their credit, from what I can see, it is not p2w. It is pay to everything else.$4.99 for 250 in game tokens, 300 needed for most items in that range. Gotta spend 10 bucks to get a 6 dollar item. Pathetic and predatory behavior.

Would rather just pay the cost up front for the game. $40? For ALL the content. The gameplay isnt worth any more than that.

Cons:
  • You can just face tank the bosses without issue solo. I took out 2 big bosses by myself just to see if i could on a level 10 character. Every boss I encountered was a generic "man in armor with big gun" that does no damage. I just stood there, as the twink grenade guy, just eating 50,000 shells to the mouth with 0 issue. If these bosses were cool, (the colossus crab was... a choice.) then maybe it would be worth doing the mechanics. From what I experienced, you just stand near them and circle strafe, while blowing them to pieces. Even the other "harder" bosses were.... circle strafe, and reload a lot. That is it.

  • They have shadow of the colossus mechanics in here. The easiest way to put it, is if you told a room temperature IQ alien what shadow of the colossus was, never let them see it, play it, or understand it, and forced them at gunpoint make a game. This would be what you received.

  • The weapon scaling is completely broken. Picked up a 4900 damage weapon at level 5 and one clicked all the gold named enemies. Joined 2 groups of people while running missions. All of us had 1 shot weapons. We completed a time estimate mission of "45 minutes" in around 5.5 minutes total if you include load times. This gun is still my most OP weapon at level 10. Everything dies in 1 shot.

  • Generic Model #314 is the choice you have of players at the start. Generic Twink, Generic Gooner Bait, and Generic Armor Man. The Twink is a direct rip off of the dude from FFXIV mind you. Look it up. Its "corporate needs you to find the difference" levels of ripped. There is also Bunny, #somysterious latex variant #12, who you can unlock shortly after starting. Since you can just steamroll the enemies. All you see if 400 bunnies running around the lobbies, all blue too.

  • You get 20,000 guns a run, 40,000 reactors,(hyperbole, but its a whole lot) and enough ammo and health that you can just forgo any high ammo weapons and use single shot incredibly powerful weapons and never run out of ammo. (not hyperbole.) Within 5 minutes you stop caring about any rarity of weapon and sort by highest DPS. You just stomp everything.

  • Was playing with IEMs, which give incredible sound in games. Every single weapon felt like i was shooting a spitwad. They have no impact at all. It makes you feel like every weapon you pick up is practically the same. There are some clear, very OP weapons at the start of the game, and everything else is not worth your time.

  • Modules/Reactors have the same issue as weapons. Auto equip and go. Feels more like just stacking numbers as opposed to doing anything. Some modules do nothing (fire) at first, but can easily get to extremely overpowered for your level. I dont know why these types of games do this. Its such a sloppy cop out using a random number generator on a value with specified drop rates for these things. It feels as if no progression is really happening outside of clicking in a menu. Breaks the whole cycle of these games for me, and im sure many others. Getting upgrades should be fun, and actually do something worth your while. Yes, I understand nearly 3 hours is nothing, but its a VERY good indicator of the rest of the game. If i have to play 400 hours to have fun, ill play something else that values my time.

  • Bug/Exploit haven: Within the first 10 minutes of the game, i ended up getting a bug that fired my gun forever without reloading. Just switched my weapons real fast and it bugged. Never had to reload until i restarted the game. Enemies will disappear and reappear at random. Forget their pathing, disappear around corners due to being unloaded, fly into the air when being shot while still alive, ragdoll and artifact into the ground like crazy, all while super heating your GPU from being unoptimized. Supposedly it works better on linux than windows, but i can safely say, not that much. It didnt crash, it just bugged out completely and consistently. I am sure this game is ripe with exploits just due to the way weapon switching worked on several occasions. I just dont have it in me to care with this one.

  • WHEN YOU COLLECT YOUR MAIL, IT WILL USE ALL THE ITEMS. - Heads up on that. If you hit collect all, the timers for all the items start then. They also do not stack %, only time. Your mail is where you get your beta items if you alpha/beta tested too btw.

  • ... Its a stuttery mess, enemy AI is borked (straight line pathing 95% of the time, accidentally cheesable AI basically.), and incredibly bugged with weapon values. By somewhat works, i mean it turns on, you can connect, and the damage registers. The AI will take the longest path 95% of the time. If you just run around an area the AI will lose sight of you and just give up. Bugged weapon values are very abundant.

Pros:
  • Game works. vast improvement over the Alpha/Beta.
Thats it. Thats all of the pros.

tl;dr: Its pretty ass.

I wanted TLD to be great. I kept up with it for a long time, was in the beta and got to play 1 game before they borked everything.

This feels like if a participation trophy was made into a game. 0 risk for any player, everyone gets everything, everyone is generic rip offs of other characters, and the list goes on to infinity. Its like they took everything that was unique, fun, and entertaining out of games and boiled them down to their most stagnant parts, and then used that in every facet of this game...

I can understand if you're 7 and need a free game to play on steam, or something, but seriously who is this for?

Its bright numbers, seems like you cant lose, seems like you always win, and you will be encouraged to spend loads of coin on the shop. Its perfect for farming money from those who will happily play games that treat them like they are regarded. (Thats on purpose.)

How do you have a game when there are no stakes, and everything is shoved in your face like that scene in family guy where the guy is slapping someones face with pictures of his kids. Also I tried to pay attention to the story, but they talk over fighting constantly and if you actually try to listen, you're getting shot at and the audio is muffled. So you cant even follow the story for whatever it is.

They tried to mix 3 wonderful things together, and ended up with a creation not that unlike the guys in jars in elden ring. Just a mash of parts that easily meld, but leads into an existential horror.

All this game needs is like 1000 whales playing to keep them churning out things like this.

In closing. It feels like this game was made specifically to farm money from people who have no self worth, and who are easily addicted to gacha style games and FOMO. Its one of those generic money grinder games where all you do is waste your life holding W+Mouse Click, and soon you have lost hundreds of dollars. Luckily, I am far from one of those people. I can see the angle for Nexon though.

So I guess they know their target audience.

Straight up, don't play this.

> Buy game
> Play game, exit first area, meet child.
> Child should have been aborted
> Kids a total A-Hole and calls everyone the F slur.
> Have low physical trait, but have option to slug kid in the mouth. 1% chance
> Roll double 6's, certified win.
> Slug child in lips for talking that mess

fast forward briefly

> Meet big man on stairs
> Try to get his ass to move so i can press a button
> He wont.
> Bug him for info, brings up "Advanced Race Theory"
> "Internalize" this so I can get by him.

> Doesnt work

> Try again, but this time i have the option of punching him in the throat. 2% chance.
> Do so, roll double 6's again, so another instant win.
> Flying 360 No Scope him in the mouth.
> Out like a light
> Press button

> Continue playing a little bit
> Partner asks me what that was all about
> Still have Advanced Race Theory installed.
> Detective becomes the KKK Clan Wizard out of nowhere. Legit left field response.

> Sides exit orbit due to the sheer insanity of what I just witnessed.

> Continue playing for another 20 minutes, find a meme ending.

> Turn game off, never play again.

This is how my Disco Elysium time went. There is a LOT, and i mean like 20 War and Peace novels worth of story in here. but this was too perfect, so im going to never touch the game again. Absolute insanity from start to finish. 7 hours of wtf, then this ending.

This is Disco Elysium to me, and i will never revisit the game again to complete a real ending. Its hilariously hamfisted with some of these writing prompts and its so meta im surprised they didnt have a game dev in here who gave majority stake of his company to someone else.

My sides. The absurdity of the advanced race theory thing just... holy hell its way too funny. Like dude went from learning a subject to just a klan wizard. I just... i cant dude. Holy hell its just so funny and absurd.

I am a 72 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing Content Warning. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son found this game, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. Loaded into the game world and started playing but I was stuck on what you were supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he helped me. Loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Big ups to the devs.

Game is a blast to play with a cohesive group. Kinda like Iron Lung + Content Warning/Lethal Company. With good coordination and a good sonar player the game is insanely fun.

DEVS: Works perfectly on Linux under Proton Experimental. No issues so far. Can host or play without issues.

LINUX USERS, FIX BELOW FOR WAYLAND/NVIDIA SYSTEMS.

I have found 2 methods to improve the stuttering on Linux.

SWITCH FROM WAYLAND TO X11:

If you are on Wayland, try X11. G Sync/Explicit Sync Workaround seems to cause insane stutter in this game, but works flawlessly on every other title. Swapping from Wayland to X11 before login fixed my issues. You can even use the second option below to increase FPS and play offline. It works amazing at 165 FPS with no timing issues I have found. 1ms monitor @ 165 feels like the right way to play this game.

USE ER-PATCHER ON GITHUB:
THIS WILL DISABLE EAC & YOU MUST PLAY OFFLINE!

If you do not want to do that, you can search for "er-patcher" on github. Place the python script in the same folder as the .exe for the game. Add the following to steam launch options.

python er-patcher -r 165 -a -s -- gamemoderun %command%

Change 165 to your monitors refresh rate or the refresh rate you prefer! Also make sure you read the github page for more things you can do! Pulls up on the top of google when searching for "Elden Ring Proton Patcher"

This is for Nvidia x Wayland systems. I have not tested this on the AMD system we have, but it seems to work on any Wayland x Nvidia system that is stuttering from what i have tested. You can also disable Explicit Sync in Wayland and it helps a bit, but it seems to be related to Gsync and Explicit Sync in Wayland specifically.

If the above methods do not work, or have little effect. You can also go into compatdata and erase the cache and force steam to build again.
- launch steam from CLI as "steam -console"
- After launch, click console, type in the text field
"shader_build 1245620"

You should see the command pop up and nothing further happen. Go into the game and sit at a grace, spin your camera, and let it rebuild the textures. This helped a bit with the insane stutter when the skybox was in view.

Since that, the game has played perfectly. If you're on windows....

RIP, you gotta cope.

Best of Luck Linux homies!

SPOILER FREE REVIEW

PROS:

- Game is fantastic.
- Difficulty is right where I like it. Insanely hard and humbles your insanely OP one shot builds.
- Beautiful artwork, music, CHARACTER DESIGNS (legit wtf were they on. These are cool as hell.)
- Tons and tons of new content
- Beautiful story
- Improvement to QoL
- Much better design for an open world DS than even Elden Ring itself.
- Clearly Miyazaki is on one, and whatever comes next is going to be stunning.

CONS:

- Optimization is garbage. Tons of stutter issues. but if you're on linux you can fix it. Windows... well you use windows you get what you get.
- This is a PRO for me, but ill put it here for you guys. Difficulty. It is so insanely hard that many people will quit in an assmaddening rage. Went from my whole steam friends list playing, to about 3 people after 2 days. You will die, a whole, whole lot. Think DS1 on Day 1 when no one knew anything about it and were scrambling to find ways to build. Thats what it like. Amazing imho.
- Needs an SSD/NVME. Its 2024, but really, it is not optimized for sh!t so it lags like all ♥♥♥♥ if you arent running on an SSD. NVME has no issue at all... i sure hope it doesnt.

Optimization aside. This is probably Miyazakis best work yet. I kid you not. Just ungodly scenery with gorgeous bosses. As a great friend put it, this is a clear love letter to Kentaro Miura. If you're a fan of Berserk... this is about the closest ive seen to a Bloodborne styled DS/ER game. Dark, gritty, hard, and most importantly... FUN!

amazing game. Personal score of 9/10. Simply because I can fix the issues. if the issues persisted, I wouldnt be playing. I hope this is fixed for you windows players here soon. This is a truly masterful expansion the likes of which i have never seen from any other game company.

Good luck Tarnished. You're certainly going to need it.

Im gonna leave a comment on this. I have 100%'d the game many years back and still play it.

For the tardlets who are saying that it doesnt work on Mac or linux. I can confirm it works perfectly fine on linux.

Works on every version of proton flawlessly. Mac who cares, you get what you deserve for buying a mac. But the linux version works flawlessly.

Legit one of the best DLC's ever and completely revolutionized the game. The issues you see below are PEBKAC. Problem exists between Keyboard and Chair.

Edit: Its no longer moist. Linux port is bugged, ESP still in the game, hackers everywhere, constantly nerfing and buffing everything in turn making some classes OP one week and unplayable the next, then right back to OP again.

Very disheartening. I love this game. nearly 300 hours since it dropped on steam and they have made sure that I cant buy anymore skins and ensured I cant play.

So i give up. All these new releases and titles are working as intended, but these guys consistently F this game right in the coinslot consistently and listen to a vocal minority while making sweeping changes. The game has been in a good state several times and just needed some QoL. But nope. They keep nerfing and keep buffing weird things to the point you either go Meta or you die instantly.

Its sad.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Its pretty moist.
Edit: Thanks for the free points.
If you see this on sale, skip it. I have more hours than on record here, but the gist of it is.
The game started tanking due to PUBG, but instead of the devs working to make it more fun they nerfed everything into the ground.
I played this years ago, made the mistake of looking into it again for old time memes.
Yeah skip it. Was going to get a group of like 50 people to play this, but my god its just ruined completely. That and with The Culling 2 having 2 played games ever... They should just remove this from steam like they did before and never put it back. Let it die with some dignity jesus christ.
Its a mid game, but a fun mid game. I play every once in a while when extremely bored. Its P2W but if you keep up with it you get a ton of free cards. Same thing in your email if you sign up or just send it to a shart account.
Play it and make a deck. Fun to play with a few friends, and fun to dumpster people. Put guy on ground > guy kill sh*t. Its fun, especially if you dont care about meta and still win a ton. Its pretty easy to get to the top if you remotely try.
Fun game though, hard 6/10.
