Over a year ago I started playing through every Resident Evil game. For a while I was making a pretty good pace since the games aren't that long. Then came Resident Evil 6.

This game took me around half a year to finish solely because playing it actively made me upset. I couldn't stomach doing more than a chapter at a time, and would often take a month long break between them. Playing this game is just so... sad. It's sad seeing everything I love about the series be replaced with quick time events and explosions.

This game is also way, way, way too long. I was ready to be done after the first campaign, but I still had three to go. Every time I played the mechanics which were originally new and fun quickly became more and more dull. I can only perform wrestling moves on monster so many times before it loses its cool.

If you put these mechanics on another game I might actually like it. It is inherently fun to flip and flop around on the floor guns blazing. That's why I think that the mercenaries is the best thing in the package. Just some arcade fun with intuitive controls. But when you throw these mechanics on a game that is way too long and never switch it up... well it gets stale.

Also Leon is a shell of his former self and it makes me upset.

I'm very excited to move onto Resident Evil Revelations 2 and Resident Evil 7. Both look to be a step in the right direction (especially 7).
