Early Access Review
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is fun.

I started off not knowing what the hell I was doing. I built some horrible broken mechanical demon that couldn't even destroy the house in the first level. Until I put a bunch of cannons on it. I named it "Abomination" and left it to rot. Shortly afterwards, I created some prototype vehicles, and didn't get very far with those either. At this point, I was getting bored. Then I had an idea.
Cannons. Many, many, many cannons. Filling up the entire frame of the construct, low and high, fit to tear apart almost any building that stood in my way. My first true creation. I christened it 'Godslayer'. Over a short period of time, I worked to improve it. Godslayer V2 had wheels and suspension, V3 had spikes, blades, and even more cannons. V4 was fitted with plows and flamethrowers, but sacrificed some of the raw cannonpower, and V5, the current version, had reduced recoil and two large catapults containing bombs at the back. A true master piece in my eyes. And yet, I had grown tired of it. As my experience with the game grew, so did my need for more complex machinery.
And so I sought to create more machines. At this stage I made something called 'Sorta works'. I don't know what it is or what I was attempting to make, but I was not pleased with the outcome. After that, I made a prototype Ballista, which was made to fire a long block of wood with a spike at the front towards the target. It only worked half the time, so I abandoned it and got to work on something a touch more complex.
It started with nothing but a large array of pistons in a line with a spike on the end, which would extend forwards and poke whatever was infront of it. I was pleased with it, but I saw plenty of room for improvement. Version 2 had wheels, a cannon, and a contractable spring to stabilize the pistons. V3 had a working catapult and even more cannons, aligned so that they would reach over cannons in front when the pistons were active. The current version, V4, made the catapult piston based so that its range could be altered, cannons were added and keybindings were altered to make the machine easier and more convinient to use, and spinning blades were added to the front to evicerate whoever decides to stand in front of it. This unstoppable amalgamation of wood and steel proceeded to tear apart buildings, evicerate armies, and flatten fortresses with relative ease. It isn't perfect or impressive by any means, but it is a creation that I am proud of, and may continue to build upon.
Truly, this game is fantastic. Even with the limited resources there is a huge variety of things to create. The updates may come slowly, but they will come. Buy it while it's cheap so you can get to destroying buildings with a phallus-shaped mechanical monstrosity. Which I have also done.

The first episode is just a crappy, short spinoff-ish dlc set in Rapture, where you play as Booker, or so it would seem. The second episode is much longer, has a much better storyline, has a bigger focus on stealth, and you play as Elizabeth. It also explains a number of the events behind the first game. I haven't bothered with clash in the clouds yet. I'd say get it if you have the money to spare and also a day or two, since both the episodes are fairly short.

Good
  • Easy to learn.
  • Simple gameplay mechanics
  • Extremely satisfying combat.
  • Decent graphics.
  • Enemies only attack you when in view. Most of the time.
  • Controller support.

Bad
  • Generic music. Not bad, but not particularly good.
  • Crappy sound effects.
  • Bosses can be annoying.
  • Not much enemy variety.
  • Unclear controls.

Other
  • No English voice acting, so subtitles are required. Doesn't bother me personally.
  • I don't know anything about the storyline because I was too busy slicing the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything in sight.
  • Controls can feel a bit twitchy and sensetive at times. I've found that this is often because I tend to hold the control stick in the direction of an enemy, which causes different moves to activate. So it's probably my own problem.
  • If you think the game is too simple and/or easy, then complete hard mode and try very hard mode. ♥♥♥♥ gets changed up immediately. And there's another difficulty after that too, which IMO is the most fun. But I'm not going to spoil that.
  • Boobles and pantsu.

Rating
Upskirt shots / 10

In all seriousness, I'd say it's well worth £7. It's certainly a surprise, I was expecting nothing but fanservice and kawaii desu horseraddish.
However I did buy it on sale.

It's not a classic for me like it is for others, but it's a solid game in it's own right. Play as a 70's bond villain plotting world domination. Only 3 villains to pick from, you can't undo or delete any constructions, and there's no sandbox, but there's plenty to do and it's very easy to pick up and learn. Worth picking up on sale.
