This game is an improvement on the first and one of the best total war games to come out in recent years. It's a very good game and I highly recommend it.

If you somehow don't have skyrim after it's been ported to like every available medium just get it already. This one or the original it doesn't matter just get one. This one is probably your better option though as it is a legitimate improvement over the original.

I wrote a review of this game a number of years ago praising it and insisting that it was worth the money and that it was a fantastic game. I still agree with the fact that this is a fantastic game and is my favorite of the series. However, it is absolutely not worth the money to purchase it on PC. The game takes a host of third party fixes and patches just to get it to perform basic functions. Getting it to run stably is an entirely different ordeal and probably won't work anyway. The base game, once you get it to a state that's even generally playable, is an unstable and ridiculous nightmare as it seems Bethesda has completely abandoned it. Even with FOSE, the updated unofficial patch, FOMM to pull it all together, etc., the game still runs like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I'm used to glitches being present in Bethesda games, they're to be expected, but this game is just horrendous. On top of this, it crashes pretty much every 5 minutes and walking between loading zones is a constant death sentence. I've done all the correct steps, downloaded everything I could to fix the game, spent hours in the process watching videos and trying every method, and yet the game is a complete mess. Don't waste your money on this absolutely broken game unless you are willing and ready to go through with the copious amount of work it takes to give it some form of functionality. Even with this work though it's not a guarantee that you could play it anyway. I've done everything I could to get it to work and have gotten absolutely nowhere. I would love to chalk this up to my own ineptitude, but this is apparently a fairly common occurrence. Unfortunately the only real stable way to run this heap of garbage is to drag out an old console, dig the disk for the game out of wherever its hiding, blow the dust off of both, and pray for the best results. Don't burn your money by buying this, it's just not worth it anymore.

tl;dr: Game doesn't work, don't waste your money.

It's been out for nearly eight years, it's fantastic just get it already if you haven't.

I have been playing Total War games for a few years and when this one was announced I was a little bit skeptical as it wasn't based on the world, but based on the lore of Warhammer. As it turned out this was a good thing as it allowed for many new features and mechanics to be introduced. So although there is no historical setting there still is a fantastic and extremely interesting setting for you to conquer.

This game is extremely good. I can not say that enough. Not only is it fun, it's also mysterious, adventurous, and a great game for multiplayer. The island you are stranded on never gets boring to explore because you always find something new. The island also has an expansive cave system with many things to find. Over all this is just a great game to play alone or with friends.

I have been playing this game ever since it came out and in my personal opinion I believe that it is a wonderful game to play. Because of the sheer size of this game and all of the side quests it is always repayable. Even the main story lines and dlc are interesting each time because you always find something new in them. I highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys rpg games or just has an interest in Nordic culture.
