Quite frankly, I'm surprised there haven't been more RTS games of this type. The Wargame franchise is truly a one-of-a-kind RTS game.

What I like most about this game is the combat requires good sense and planning while also minimizes the amount you actually have to micromanage. The closes game I can compare this to is Company of Heroes, but that franchise has a lot more nuance and micromanaging of units.

A couple other cool features of this game is (1) the "deck" building, and (2) the limited resources.

(1) Prior to match-making, you can building your own "deck" of available units to choose from. Each unit comes with their own unique weapons, abilities, and costs to deploy.

(2) Like tabletop games, once your deck and resources are depleted, you are left with what you have deployed. Herein lies the grand strategy of the game.

Lastly, the units are balanced for the most part. Essentially every faction has their trump card. And the way the devs balanced this out was they might limit you to deploying only one unit of the type, making it expensive to deploy, or limiting the amount of ammo that unit has. Either way, every unit type has a counter. And no matter how good your unit is, even the most basic of counter units will act as a hard counter. E.g. AT soldier vs. tank, or simple AA gun (no rockets) vs plane.

I hope to see a new addition to this franchise in the coming years.

Even if you aren't a Star Wars fan, you probably wont find a 3D RPG as deep as this one

I've played many RTS games, but this one still takes the cake. The territory control is simple, and the battles are diverse. And the AI cheating isn't overdone.

Even if this game isn't enough for you, there is a huge modding community with massive overhaul modpacks you can download.

The game is exactly as it looks. You start from the ground up with each stage offering a new gameplay experience.

The final stage, space changes the game dramatically. Many, like myself, are not fans of it. But as a whole, Spore is a great game with endless possibilities.
