This game is fun on paper but heavily RNG oriented because of the way resources spawn. Unless you unlock the game modifier that increases the iron drops early on, then you will probably quit this game after a couple runs
As a whole, the game is pretty repetitive. A lot of upgrades/gadgets are objectively better: if you choose anything else, then you are actively handicapping yourself. Some upgrades even downgrades!

I won't stop you form getting this game, but be aware that there is a "correct way" to play this game

Steam Deck Notes:

Runs fine. The game was designed to be played with keyboard only (no mouse) anyways so there isn't any trouble when switching to using the buttons on controller

There aren't many games that fit this exact type of experience. I would describe this game as a strategy-idler: an idler game where your decisions affect your progression (yes you can lose and you can also get high scores based on how successful you are).

That said, the game is showing it's age and has some annoying UI bugs that require a restart to fix. That is why I cannot recommend this game.

I don't usually allow comments on reviews, but I am for this one because I want to hear about other games that might fit this niche.

Steam Deck Notes:

Seem like a really cool game, but I cannot recommend it for Steam Deck users. These are some of the most complicated and unintuitive controls I've ever seen. My favorite of the bad controls is the L joystick does nothing except zoom in and out, but you can't even do that unless you're holding X

I always thought of this as a cutesy farm game. But once I saw my GF pull out the wiki page and start speed running the thing, my whole perspective changed.

Steam Deck Notes:

Runs great! I would recommend binding the grip buttons for added comfort.

It's cute and the writing is funny. Lot's of meta, 4th wall, pop culture, and even based political jokes.

What I like most about this game is the freedom to design vehicles and structures in your image. The game is about making the world yours.

My biggest gripe is that some of the builds are extremely limited in the pieces they give you. Sure they can make for some interesting challenges, but sometimes there really isn't a challenge. It's just bad pieces. Fortunately, after you complete a build your first iteration that completes all the build's requirements, you are allowed to go back and edit the builds in "sandbox mode". In this mode, you are offered unlimited pieces of any type.

Despite this, there is only one achievement geared towards the sandbox building mode. I wish there were more achievements in this area to incentivize going back and making things "pretty".

Steam Deck Notes:

The game runs great on the Steam Deck. I honestly can't complain other than the build mode. The mode is much better suited for mouse and keyboard. That said, it is completely doable on controller. It just takes more time since you won't have the same precision capabilities as a mouse. Personally it was frustrating at first, but after a few builds, I was able to get into the mindset of "take my time and think about what I'm building".

If you already have the Parklife DLC, then I would go for this next. It adds a lot of new content to work with while also benefiting your city.

That said, other than the benefits, the universities leave something to be desired.

I honestly don't see the point of this DLC other than looking cool. You unlock the content WAY too soon in the game. Then on top of that you need like 1 or 2 TILES to actually build an airport. Unless you are using mods to unlock more tiles, chances are you don't have that much extra space.

This is probably one of the few DLC's I would actually say adds something new to the game. I know cool transit buildings are cool but transportation is already a key part of the base game. The Parks DLC creates a whole new direction

If you already have some of the core DLC's then this is a nice one to add to make the game look a little prettier
