Early Access Review
If you're still somehow interested in buying this game, HOLD OFF FROM PURCHASING NOW. Daybreak has been hit with layoffs and it is rumored for the whole Just Survive team to be fired. This means no new updates and also a risk of the servers being shut down completely. Whole Daybreak is at risk of being sold or closing now (google Daybreak Columbus Nova for more information), so this applies to all other Daybreak products as well.

Abandoned game. Don't buy unless you really like throwing money into unfinished products with placeholder-like graphics and little content.

5 months without a single update and now this. The dev did not have the will to work on the game and finish it, I personally can't see any legitimate reason to pay for the unfinished alpha game.

I know it's a negative review, but again, if you personally think you could enjoy the game, go for it. Just don't expect anything beyond what there is now.

EDIT
I Just made some research, and during 11 months of development, he added 2 maps, 3 gadgets and 1 weapon. Pretty much it functionality-wise. Now consider there are 6 weapons in the game and 5 maps with pretty placeholder textures and very simple assets. Says a lot about the game's progress. There's no mistake, 1 dev or not, 11 months is a lot of time to make at least twice as that with low effort.

Very punishing experience as how this BR game plays out at its core, but there's always something to learn off your deaths. IMO the most complete BR game on market with progression system, Combat Practice (deathmatch) mode to help with learning guns and since recently, two "main" modes:

1. The standard BR mode with features like choosing your parachuting location, simple healing system, practical inventory and crafting (playable as solo, duo or 5 man teams)

2. Recently added, more "casual" Auto Royale mode, crazy car battle where 4 players per car fight to be last team standing (driving ?) by picking powerups, weapons and destroying opponents' cars. The mode is currently in beta so there are some annoying things (low framerate being the biggest offender) but it's very fun nevertheless, even with randoms.

Other aspects of the game such as graphics and sound are just good - nothing too special but they are at good enough level not to disrupt competitive nature of the gameplay.

Overall, H1Z1 is definitely worth trying out, especially that now the game is F2P, so the only thing you lose, if you end up not liking the game, is your time. Go try it, and if you like it and have any questions, visit the game's subreddit (reddit.com/r/h1z1), I'm sure someone will take his time to help a new player. See you in the game !

Hard, rage-inducing, frustrating, unforgiving at times... I love it. Especially the soundtrack is great. Also a good replay value if you're into speedrunning or just feeling you can do better for some achievements and ratings. ;)

Honestly, there are two questions you need to ask yourself, considering you're already reading this review:

1. Does your PC exceed minimum requirements for the game ?
2. Do you like fighting games ?

If you answered "yes" to both, then what are you waiting for ? Go buy it, support good PC ports, support devs who want to develop more of their games on PC and do it the way done with Tekken 7, where performance and playability is great at Day1, there are multiple options to make your experience as pleasant as possible and the game is overall a blast to play and definitely the best Tekken game I have played (Out of Tekken 3, Tag 1 5, 6 and Tag 2).

Seriously, go buy it, you're not going to regret it. Let's show the developers that PC fighting game communities can be as close to being healthy and big as on consoles !

I wanted to like this game... Really did. The progress since early access really disappoints me though.

Let's start from performance. They recently revamped a new map which has godawful performance even on my machine (i5 6400, GTX 1060 6GB) - it occassionally drops frames below 50, even on everything low and low texture mode enabled. This makes the game barely playable as with such framerate it's even hard to keep your aim consistent.

Then, there's the case of currency. Earlier, you could get 50k GP per level. Now you gain 20k. What does it mean ? Weapons cost around 200k GP, attachments at least 40k. This means to get a single attachment to the gun, you need to level up twice. There are obviously bonuses for missions etc. but you can get 3 missions per day and maybe do them all in 3 hours of playing. For what ? 10,5k GP summed up. This means you can "complete" your weapon in a week once you have it purchased and played it daily. Doesn't sound bad for a free2play right ? Would be, if you didn't have to purchase a gun. That's another week of a grind. Then they add a new gun which is obviously more powerful than most of the guns in the game.

And after all these months, they still haven't fixed the abysmal performance drops in menus and at the end of game screen. I could forgive them that in early access, but not almost a year after going into open beta. The game will just become more of a grind fest as it went this direction for a long time now. Such a shame, because gameplay is good overall, it's just that everything that would support the good fundamentals of a game is ruined.

I may hop in once in a while to see if anything changed, but so far it's gonna be a negative review unfortunately. I hope I'm wrong and developers will think about possible playerbase gain with better currency system and performance.

EDIT (25.10.2017, after the shutdown announcement, yes I have just noticed it after wanting to come back to the game another time)

So here we are. Developers couldn't make the game work as it should, so nexon shut them down. Is it the right decision ? In my opinion, yes. People started quitting the game after nothing went in good direction, including myself.

I got only 13 hours in, but I peeked in from time to time to see if many of the issues the game has were fixed. In fact, the game was nearing its end with developers only putting additional nails in the coffin that waited to be buried under the ground.

I'm a bit sad because I saw huge potential when I bought the game in Early Access. But for some awkward reason, the game rewarded players less and less for playing, causing everything to become a standard grind.

It's like with these asian MMORPGs where most of them look amazing in their first days then after a few weeks/months they go into pure p2w in attempt to milk whales who decided to stay. Seems like there were not enough whales grabbing this game's attention, rightfully so.

Screw Nexon. Everything they touch becomes a failure sooner or later. This can't be a coincidence.

No matter how good the game would be, if games start at 2v5, then there's something's wrong with its basic functionality. I tried to like it, but this + noobtoobs + 'floaty' gameplay when over half of smg gunfights depend on who flies better is just stupid.

To the devs - fix. The damn. Connectivirty. Issues. My friend even gets kicked out of his own custom game at start. Like what the f*ck.
