The actual base game sucks, you might as well play smash. You just want this game because its M.U.G.E.N with smash bros game play.
As the smash version of M.U.G.E.N though, its pretty good.

Paper Mario is incredible man it changed my life. The last Paper Mario game I got before this one sucked it was the sticker star one, I didn't even finish it but this one is different. In this one, the characters are all kinds of different insects but in the last one everyone was toad. Honestly they're taking Paper Mario back to its roots with this one, giving fans what they wanted. Remember in the old ones where you could give ingredients to Tayce T or Zess T and they would make a "mistake" item that would consume all ingredients and waste them? They brought that back in this game too. They also brought back the badges and the leveling up and the little square pieces of land that stick out where you can go to a new area with yellow and orange triangles on the side. Wow incredible. Nintendo has been listening to their focus groups testing with this one. I also love all the three main characters so much except for the green one and the moth. Overall this game is ok but its just more of the same Thousand Year Door you have come to expect.

I give this game a 6/10, it's above average.

Gameplay:
This game is truly the Dark Souls of Mickey Mouse. Many of the elements are lifted straight from the Souls series. For one, most of the challenges in the game come from the boss fights, of which there many and all of them unique. Trial and error will be necessary as the player learns the boss patterns and how to roll to avoid them. Another Souls aspect is that the player may be invaded by another player, who will then attempt to help or hinder the player whose game they joined. Finally, parrying from Dark Souls is prevalent in this game, however the player may only parry pink objects. This game also borrows heavily from Super Mario and the Smash Bros series. Platforming segments are prevalent and very mario-like; players will have to bounce on enemies, collect coins, and reach a flag at the end. Additionally, the player can get powerups that will allow them to shoot fireballs that allow them to kill enemies. From the Smash Bros series is lifted the "Final Smash" attack that Kettle can perform once he takes enough pink pills. This devastating attack will destroy all in the player's way and feels very satisfying to use. Additionally, RPG elements permeate the game, from the party and leveling system, to the act of finding new weapons and armor and equipping them to party members. I am happy to say that although these gameplay elements are wildly different, they all blend seamlessly into one expertly crafted gameplay experience.

Style:
The game has an old cartoon look that may turn some players away from this game. Because Cuphead is a reboot of the failed early 20th century cartoon, the developers decided to use the same lazy tactics of that day to create the visuals for this game. As such, the game has a cartoonish, unrealistic look that pales in comparison to other modern games of this era, such as Battlefield 1. While the developers wished to create a cheap artstyle in order to save budget, the end result is a cheap looking, seemingly damaged "artstyle" which is hard on the eyes. I would have preferred a modernized look more akin to, say, modern day Rick and Morty. However, the gameplay more than makes up for this blunder.

Conclusion:
This game has an incredible story and crazy good gameplay, however the art takes a hit.
I give this game a 6/10, everything is perfect but the art.

Great story, great characters, great abilities, weapons, items, humor, party mechanics, battle system, everything. Probably one of, if not the BEST game ever made to be honest. If you haven't played this game, you haven't lived yet. Like, this game is scary good, no joke.
