Slitherine just purchased Battlefront Games and the Combat Mission franchise. A rare case in the modern world where a publisher purchasing a developer is unequivocally a good thing. Slitherine has already done amazing things in the last few years as a publisher, such as finally persuading the geriatrics at Battlefront to put their game on Steam and allow their 10+ year old games (that look and play like 20+ year old games) to go on sale. This is a recommended, but really please only buy the game on sale, it ain't worth it otherwise. Anyways, with the purchase by Slitherine I am extremely hopeful for the future of the franchise, and I really hope that Slitherine is able to bring out the amazing potential that I and many others see in this franchise. If they were to modernize the engine with a usable user interface, less atrocious graphics, and (a bit of a pipe dream, but a man can hope) maybe even some sort of co-op mode for the campaigns, then the games would actually become well worth a $60 price tag, as well as attracting a bunch more players. Dwarf Fortress pretty recently showed how successful a super niche game can become if just made actually accessible to the more average player. My hopes really are high for this series going forwards, don't let me down Slitherine.
