Children of a Dead Earth Is hands down the most stupidly autistic game I have ever played and I love it. Game literally has me learning actual rocket science in order to optimize my ships. tfw the game literally just links you to wikipedia pages on topics if you click the "more info" box at the bottom of their articles explaining game mechanics. Also uhhhh, no other game would let me do stupidly retarded things like making a spaceship with armor that consists of 10 meters thick of diamond, followed by a 10 meter gap, then 10 meters thick of borosilicate glass, followed by a 10 meter gap, followed by 10 meters thick of Uranium-235 (yeah, you don't cover your spaceships in fissile material?) followed by a relatively thin, but still really thick if you think about it 1 centimeter of gold, just for the bling. Yeah it cost like 9 trillion credits and couldn't move at all, but it was completely impervious to all but nukes (which didn't even kill the armor either, its just after enough went off the crew just died).

Just for a disclamer at the very start: I didnt finish the game. Yeah, youre totally right to argue I have no right to write a review for a game I never finished. However, I think the fact I simply couldn't get myself to play more than three hours says something about my enjoyment of the game given that I blazed through all the other half life games pretty quickly because I had a blast with them and was quite excited to play Alyx. I had never played a single Half Life game before, and so in anticipation of this game, I played through 1 and both its dlcs as well as 2 and all the episodes. They were great, I loved them both, though I must admit I'm partial to the first game over the second, but I digress. My point is, this game didn't do it for me, not even close. It really didn't even feel like a Half Life game. Boneworks is ten times more Half Life than this game is. So no, this game isn't worth the $60, given that I got mine for free with my Index and still haven't finished it.
I do intend on finishing the game at some point, and if I do ill likely update this review. Preemptive thanks for the inevitable downvotes you valve fanboys.

Despite my initial fears, there is no gay subplot. Basil is just a homie. Thank goodness. And just in general it managed to actually avoid all of the annoying and predictable bad writing tropes I've come to fear in modern media. Not a homophobe, I just don't like gay relationships being shoehorned into everything.
Also, the only piece of media with a lesson about "the power of friendship" that's actually impactful and doesn't come across as just lame and generic.

Cyberpunk is seriously a truly exceptional game. Sure, as it stands there's a lot of annoying bugs. And no, it's not the best in terms of giving the player tons and tons of room to roleplay, V as a character is fairly set apart from the three backgrounds you can choose from. However, it more than makes up for these flaws with it's exceptional writing, captivating worldbuilding, interesting and diverse characters, super fun and interesting quests, a very immersive world, and extremely solid gameplay to tie it all together.

I don't write reviews very often, but this might well be the best damn game i've ever played. 1000% worth it, and worth the Valve Index I bought.
