Got this for free years back, finally decided to crack it open.

The Good: The sniping game has good sniping. I like figuring out my ballistics on the fly, though with the exception of the faster one the sniper rifles feel a bit interchangeable. The enemies in the first half are also relatively fair, and it feels good finally landing those gas cap shots on tanks once you figure out where they are (the side and in front, spoiler!)

You can also allegedly shoot hitler in the funny bits, but I haven't figured out the challenge mode options to get there so who even knows.

The Bad:
There is next to no point in using the smgs, and stealth is similarly kind of worthless since enemies stay alert way too long and on the highest difficulties spot you from unfair angles. The AI is also utterly dreadful, simultaneously too good at spotting you and too dumb to avoid getting shot. Whenever they enter alert mode, they start running around in the open, and whenever they have a bead on you they'll just lemmings into doorways to try and overwhelm you. Rarely if ever did I feel like a death was earned, especially once the sniper enemies come into play.

I cannot express how loathsome those snipers are. They will kill you before you even know where they are half the time because it takes two shots to put you down, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to spot them before the second shot because they also have a quick fire rate and visibility in this game is best described as beige dog-water.

The visuals are similarly... kinda drek. If you like the sepia and grey visuals of yesteryear's deluge of ww2 shooters, it's just more of that with a more late xbox 360 visual fidelity.

Surprisingly, the slow-mo snipershot cam doesn't get old, mostly because it gives you a breather and time to think around situations. Once the novelty of the fatalities wears off, there's still value in the situational awareness it gives you since enemies still render when they're going. Several times this helped me spot enemies lurking around corners or heading for me from a blind-spot. It also helps with the sometimes-spotty readability of kill-confirm messages, the one thing I do wish is that you could skip them, but that's still better than I expected going in.

Finally, the story is beyond generic and also extremely stupid. By the final act you're fighting the russians, who I may remind you WERE NOT PART OF THE AXIS POWERS! Why are we shooting russians in their winter gear in the middle of berlin while ALLIED with them? It then ends on a line about being the "first soldier in the cold war."

The one-liners and grit are extremely dull and you can just skip the story entirely for the shooting gallery.

Also, some parts are way tighter on timings than you'd think. The tanks on the bridge fails the moment they set an inch on the far side, not when they're all the way off, meaning there's no way to get all three. Tragic.

ultimately, a 3/10 game I feel like I kinda wasted my time playing.
