I see a lot of people complaining about low fps and lack of optimization.
I can imagine most of them are not aware that when you do alt + x it brings up a seperate graphics menu specifically for the RTX stuff. This allowed me to go from 30fps to about 90-100fps while keeping the "RTX feel" as by default it seems to be set to the absolute max (Using a 3070 and Ryzen 9 3900X combo).

TLDR: When you load in, do alt + x and change the values to whatever spec your card is and it will run great! https://images.nvidia.com/aem-dam/Solutions/geforce/news/portal-rtx-available-december-8/geforce-portal-rtx-optimal-settings-chart-article-3840x2160.jpg

I lowered all the stuff and it still was only around 50 FPS on an RTX TITAN card... dunno why it runs so badly.

@Jesus

Some people have no joy in life unless they are complaining and trying to take someone down with them. its sad. thanks for your comment. I actually saw the alt x option in game and my only problem was my output resolution. knocked it down a notch and the game runs perfectly. be well.

@Big Jim That's how it works with Ray-tracing, it's an extremely expensive feature, but you can disable it and have that juicy 1k FPS (I'm exaggerating obviously) instead.
The upscaler improves performance while keeping the quality basically the same, so idk what you're complaining about, wait a few more generations and MAYBE we'll have ray-tracing capable GPUs that can consistently hit 120+ FPS at 4k res, ok maybe not but a man can dream, and hopefully for under 2k dollars.......

@Nik You don't need to look through reviews or guides to make it run smooth. There is a pop-up in game that tells you about it when you launch (in the top left) and the guide i used is also on the store page (which is where i found it).
I did not actively search for anything, I just looked on the store page and saw it. It's not hard, and saying you have to actively go out of your way to optimize it yourself is not a valid excuse to hate on the game.

The fact of the matter is, this whole game is a promotion for DLSS 3.0. And honestly, it shows it off perfectly with the fact that you get 30fps normally but can pretty much triple that with little effect on fidelity by using it.
But if your experience does not line up with mine and you have a similar or better specc'd machine, then i'd say its more likely to be an issue with your machine whether than be thermals or some other issue. Otherwise it would make no sense for me to get as good frames as i get.

A player should not be looking through reviews and guides to make the thing run smooth. The point that you need to adjust more setting not readily accessible only shows that the thing is actually a huge poop not meant for regular consumer to be enjoyed.

@Archaern All i did was follow the guide in the link i posted and it was that easy. Im not sure why you don't think its believable

And I see someone saying that Im getting 100FPS at "MAX SETTINGS", which is untrue and not what i said at all. You can see in the link below what settings i used to achieve what, only thing I needed to do to go from 40-50fps to 90-100fps was to use Performance DLSS rather than Balanced as the guide suggested.

However, i am running at 2k resolution. At 1080p Im able to get a more respectable 60-70fps on balanced. The guide is intended for 1080p configs so that makes more sense.

Please feel free to request specifc rooms or spots that you'd like me to benchmark in.

Thanks for the info. After reading the other reviews, I feared I'd have to miss out on this one with only a 2080 in my rig. I'll try this game out later.
But still, points deducted from nVidia for A) hiding the important options behind an obscure key combo instead of integrating it into the proper settings menu, and B) having only a single set of default settings.
I know games from back in the day (early 2000's), which either had a list of known GPUs and a set of default settings for them, along with a warning "unknown GPU, picking *minimum* graphics settings", or would run a benchmark at first startup to guess good initial settings. Why these customs fell out of favor is a mystery to me.

DLSS being a requirement for smooth performance in games even on the best hardware is really starting to get on my nerves. Why even spend so much on these cards if you're going to have to use an upscaler anyway? Utterly pointless.

I really don't believe this user got 90-100 FPS unless they fully disabled ray tracing.
