the base of a good game is present, but there's just too many things preventing me from having a blast.

- the game is too dark. i understand probably by design, but when most of the game is dimly lit areas, it starts to get grating
- gun feel is off. it's not all bad but every gun is just missing kind of a final oomph to get over the finish line
- levels are way too long. would be way more enjoyable if they were shrunk to half the size they are. secrets in games are nice, but it feels like levels are designed to be labyrinths just because they wanted to stick 20 secrets in there
- it's not an easy game. i don't expect a game to owe me a free win, but even on easy you gotta put in the work to get anything done

on the upside, the power ups are a cool idea and can be game changing when used correctly, and the default blade feels good to use. on that same note, it also feels too good to use because the dash attack mulches way more enemies than even the stronger guns arguably should.

i'd recommend it on sale if you are an absolute Quake fanatic but other than that i don't know, i don't think it's particularly remarkable, unfortunately

the game is pretty alright. not a ton of tactical depth, although unit customization between different weapons and upgrade paths is pretty cool and does allow for some squad customization.

imo one of the most interesting thing is permanently losing stats when a character dies on a map. not overly punishing, but still pushes you to play carefully and care about positioning.

other than that, there's some jank (especially with the UI and the inventory management...) but i am a sicko so i had no real issue with it, but most people would hate it.

i don't think the game is very fun! there's a ton of interactions and seemingly a lot of depth but you can barely move around, and it just feels terrible to spend endless turns just trying to move people forward so they can fight. maybe it gets better later on but i don't feel like spending 25 hours on getting to a point where i don't need to spend 5 turns just moving stuff forward. i also went ahead and watched some walkthroughs and it seems to be an issue that plagues the game for its entire runtime.

on top of that this is me nitpicking but the UI just does not look good. i'm not sure what they changed from the trailer on the store with the better looking presentation and dialogue/ui. those are more in line with the rest of the game's art, but whatever update they pushed made the game not very pretty to menu through. and there's a lot of menuing.

honestly just play this version of blind forest. you get both versions (DE and the old version) but this is just the one to play.

i liked the first "level" of the game (the caves), because it's kept relatively simple but you can see some depth to it. then i got to the second area and it did not feel as fun - enemies started feeling frustrating to fight, traps felt annoying, and the progression (and necessity to switch family members) got a bit too much for me.

i did not have the opportunity to play with a friend, maybe that would alleviate some of the issues i have, but i was just not too enthralled by my time with the game past a certain point. i'll still leave it as a recommend because i don't think it's bad, it's just extremely not for me.

a very fun game. it's less derivative than you might think - the focus is much more on exploring and collecting than managing troops adequately, so it's closer to a collectathon in that regard.

it's got a killer soundtrack and more importantly is insanely fun to control. it also looks very good visually. it's a strong recommendation from me!

i don't think it's very fun.

combat isn't particularly fun as it lacks some sort of oomph to it - everything is weightless, feels like nothing really matters.

another point is the UI - i just think it's not very good. kind of hard to tell what you're selecting or what you're doing with a controller. strong lack of contrasts or visual clarity on that front.

i think your money is better spent on other games.
