I spent 24 years and assassinated 4 of my brother's children during infancy as well as his wife, worshipped Satan, and cucked him with his second wife (who was ugly as ♥♥♥♥ btw), all so I could unify his independent empire of Eastern Francia with my empire of Western Francia. It was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ glorius.

Crusader Kings 2 is what you get when you combine roleplaying elements with Grand Strategy. Unlike most strategy games, CK2 distinguishes itself from others by focusing on characters and their relationships over nations and their borders. The sky is the limit on the possibilities in CK2 thanks to it's complex systems driven gameplay and I cannot recommend it enough.

People tend to blow out of proportion how hard the game's UI is to learn, but it's not. The in-game tutorial just sucks at doing so, but with the power of the internet you can find out what everything does easily and be playing in 30 to 40 minutes. The game is complex, but rewarding to learn, but nevertheless people still blow the initial learning curve out of proportion.

Also, people like to ♥♥♥♥♥ about the amount of DLC in this game, but if you're just starting out, it's totally not needed and I would advise against it. The DLC is to keep the hardcore playerbase playing. When you get bored of what the game has to offer (after hundreds of hours) that's when you should buy the DLC that interests you because all of them add very specific features. CK2 is more than a complete game out of the box and the DLC is very much extra content.
