It's one of very few roguelikes that have managed to capture me as fast as Balatro and Risk of Rain 2.

Path of Exile could be wildly successful with 6 years of graphics updates applied to it, instead we got lies about how our money was being spent and this half baked Diablo 3.5.

They just revealed multiplayer trade isn't going to exist, bought it on the promise it was going to be a multiplayer game with trade. The single player has nothing special to make it worth playing over the alternatives.

About 15 missions in and I just can't recommend the game. I'm not even that interested in going further at this point. The core problem has two layers:

1. The "wounded" system leaves you waiting around or taking your units into combat with less max HP, this might work in some other game, but it feels terribly out of place here. Taking small arms fire as a giant walking tank should not mean 3 months of recovery.

2. The enemy balance exacerbates the above issue. Cultists, the lowest form of enemy, are able to severely wound your characters with the in-universe version of a nerf-gun. Auto-pistols against Terminator armor is like trying to take out a tank with a sharpened stick. In this game 5 of the lowest tier enemies have more health and damage output than the elite enemies do.

The only real flaw this game has that needs to be remedied is the lack of diversity in factions/units. If this game is successful enough to end up with a DLC campaign for 5 or 6 more factions I could see myself sinking hundreds of hours in it. There are some other issues on a technical level or in current unit balance but they're all very fixable with a few patches.

The best roguelike on the market, and this is from someone who owns a lot of roguelikes.

Adding another 20+ monsters to world is exactly what it needed to give it the variety of older MH titles.

Give it a year, it might be worth it with another 12 months of development time. As it stands now it's not worth playing with the piles of game breaking bugs and horrible balance.

The game you're buying today is actually worse than the one abandoned 6 years ago. Any RPG elements were gutted, no more leveling up, no skill tree, none of the advertised "Advanced classes" that convinced me to try it in the first place all those years ago. A mild disappointment for me at this point, but I wouldn't recommend spending a cent on it if you can avoid it.

Look up "Region Locking" then realize that a "Region" in this game is a biome in Minecraft. Want to go over this invisible border between some hilly lands and some snowy hilly lands? Lose all your progress. You're just better off rerolling, at least then you can play with all 8 abilities left in the game instead of starting from scratch every few hours on the same tired character.
