Create your own games in Game Dev Tycoon!
The game is about making games and building your own game development company.
In the beginning you only have some start-up capital and basic skills. It is upon you to create a good game that brings your one man company forward. Depending on the genre you have to focus on certain aspects and if you succeed you'll earn enough experience and money for further studies, so you can create more complex games, even for different platforms.
Depending on how good or bad you do your company will either grow, have employees, hold your own conventions, release AAA titles, sequels and sell an own console, or you will fail and go bankrupt before the game ends.
While you're playing you have no competitors but yourself. That means if you make it to the end of the game all of your achievements will be rated and result in a personal highscore.
After that you are free to play on and check out what you (may) have missed, or you start over with your knowledge and try to beat your very own highscore. It may sound boring, but IMHO it's very challenging and does make fun.
The graphics are simple but that's okay. I think it gives the game a playful charm. The sounds are okay, but if you play it several times they can start to annoy you a bit, but in this case you can just disable them and hear your own music instead.
The game is good to relax and take a break from the casual shooters and RPGs.
It's not perfect, e.g. I miss the possibility to create a packaging, deceide about a copy protection and the game's rating system is sometimes a bit odd if you try to create awesome games that exist in real life, but give you a poor rating in the game.
Despite some smaller flaws it is a nice game and I recommend it if you like simulations that are not too realistic.
