New Player Says "Why Did I Wait?"

I've been playing for all of 2 days and am thoroughly hooked. I've been looking at ED since its release but never pulled the trigger. Why? I loved the original 1984 Elite game. I got the impression that ED was going to be very grindy and I hate grinding. I thought it would take weeks to move up to something like a Cobra Mk III. Sigh. I was wrong.

In my first 2 days I purchased a Hauler outfitted for exploring / FSS and a Cobra Mk III well outfitted as an all-around workhorse. I currently have a credit balance of 6,048,118 CR and my ships are worth 10,292,596 CR. I'm ranked as a Trailblazer in Exploration (which is how I earned most of the CR). I know that to progress to a Navy rank that allows access to Sol will take some time, but it didn't take long at all to get a decent ship like the Cobra MKIII.

Tips for other newbies
-------------------------------
You can do a lot in your starter ship, but do the totorials. I failed the second combat tutorial, and just moved on.

You can make money pretty quickly Here's how I'm doing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhGXtAZ8kKQ&list=PLNCEMDX0z8Y6ecwWQUjnK3CX_thW2Mr1P&index=2&t=1378s
This video clearly outlines a way to go from a pauper to having a respectable bank account in a way that is completely lore-friendly. No cheap tricks. I've only done the first 2 parts and have 16,000,000 CR so far in only 2 play sessions.

Concerned about Open Play? I'm playing solo and having a ball. Once I hone my skills a bit, I'll definitely do Open Play.

What I like about ED
-------------------------------
Play the way you want
Online with other players, online with a known group of players or offline in solo mode. And there is plenty to do in solo mode too.

So much to do!
Explore, bounties on wanted criminals, trading, sight-seeing.

Spectacular sights
Even with the limited amount of space I've seen so far, it is impressive. Can't wait until I see some of things that have been posted by others - nebula especially.

Cool ships
And you can customize them for the job. One small gripe, very small. Extra paint jobs cost RW dollars.

Flying in the "real" galaxy
Fltying to places I've viewed through a telescope or viw the Hubble. It really creates a sense of awe and wonder at this amazing universe we live in.

Lots of community support
Apss, online sites, tutorials, websites that synchronize with Elite's servers to bring down trade data, calculate routes and more.

VoiceAttack was made for a game lile Elite and makes controlling ship functions much easier. I got an add-on voice pack from HCS - Astra - that provides a useful and fun "companion" when using voice control. Brilliant.

What I don't like about ED
-------------------------------
So far, not alot. Like I said, having to purchase paint jobs is lame, but they are cheap at least. I haven't yet ventured into Open Play, but I will once I'm confident in my flying.

Only one player account. If you want to start a new career, you must delete your current commander.

Can't rename your commander. Well, you can start a new game or request a name change if you have a decent reason for it.

Why did I wait?
