I've got about 50 hours into KCD and I love it. I waited to buy because I heard about the bugs and the difficult combat system. It was on sale and I thought "What the heck? I'll give it a try". I'm glad I did. I suppose I'm also glad I waited because it's on v1.9.3 and I assume most of the bugs have been worked out. I haven't encountered anything yet anyway.

I was also leery of KCD because it isn't a fantasy RPG (no magic, no dragons). It's more of a medieval history RPG. But I found that I love the world and lore. I've been spending a lot of time on side quests because I love experiencing the world and the inhabitants. Playing KCD has me searching for videos about medieval times in Bohemia.

Now about the combat system. I've read many reviews and some players just hate the combat system. I am starting to like it. It isn't hack and slash for sure. It has taken time both for me to get better and for my Henry get some skills. Archery was impossible in the beginning. Now I'll win any archery contest I enter. Sword play is harder for me but I'm getting better. Some reviewers quit the game because they couldn't handle the combat system. There is usually several ways to solve quests and combat is only one option. Stealth, alchemy, conversation are other options. You don't have to fight a group of bandits, you could sneak into camp and poison the stew...

The attention to detail in KCD is incredible. If you search YouTube, you'll find videos that compare the game landscapes and towns to the real ones today. And they match very well. Alchemy is not what You'll find in fantasy RPGs. No magic potions here. Instead you create potions that mimic real world concoctions of the time, using similar ingredients. Yes there are health potions, but not so magical as other games. Henry is a commoner and the gulf between lords and commoners is an integral part of the game.

As others have said, if you are expecting another Skyrim, you may not enjoy KCD - but then again it might surprise you!
