I emulated the first game and then found out this released on steam so that's all I'm reviewing here.

that level design is hot ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass oh my god.
It's actually the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ piece of ♥♥♥♥ I think I've ever encountered. Holy ♥♥♥♥ it's like each level keeps getting progressively worse with it's layout as you go on. Destiny island was a bit awkward with explaining how to get coconuts from trees, and Alice in wonderland was like, it sucks completely but at least it's kindof quick, but tarzan just drags on and on and on even if it's somewhat easier to figure out where to go. I was contemplating ending myself when I had to deal with aladdin and good god nightmare before christmas actually needs to kill itself. That whole level needs to be removed from existence, no amount of hot topic design sora, goofy and donald can save yourself from the sin that is "Go find the mayor" and after spending 3 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours looking around the town trying to interact with the one house that has a doorbell which I should add never becomes relevant in the story in any meaningful way. You actually needed to go into the the small pocket graveyard area, rub yourself against the wall until a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ interact prompt pops up for a grave that will take you to a LITERAL SECRET AREA and then the mayor is OVER THERE. GET OUT
HOLY ♥♥♥♥ JUST DON'T DO THAT HOW DID YOU THINK THIS WAS OKAY? THAT'S NOT GOOD GAME DESIGN ESPECIALLY FOR A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHILDRENS GAME WHAT WERE YOU THINKING.

Outside of this I really did love kingdom hearts 1, it's an amazing game even if the reason I love it so much is just because they have sora be a goofy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ anime boy with random disney ip's with final fantasy shoved in. It's so peam. Like it takes itself so seriously with such a nonsensical and insane plot with all these decisions to try to make the game more grand, expansive and important, but it instead leads to this interesting combination that leads to crazy amounts of tonal whiplash, genuine emotion and with anime style voice acting with donald duck being the person responding just is such a surreal thing to have exist that just that alone will put a smile on my face.

Donald, we need to go save our friends from the darkness!

then like 5 seconds later like sora loses the keyblade to his friend who is literally getting backed by the embodiment of darkness in a scene where he basically spits on sora, calls him a piece of ♥♥♥♥ and says to go home like the little baby boy man he is and give up because he sucks so bad.
This causes Donald and Goofy who both have told sora constantly that they're best friends and that nothing will get in the way of their friendship and that nothing could possibly tear them apart as they'll always be there for eachother literally go
"well sora you don't have the keyblade so like... go ♥♥♥♥ yourself gahoy!" "YrsdklfbEAH STHBORA FGO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ YOU:ESLJKFSSRSELF!!!" and after sora gets the keyblade back they pretend they were friends the whole time.

♥♥♥♥ donald and goofy. They suck. They're actually the worst friends you could ask for which is probably why they only exist in re:chain of memories as nothing more than tools to be used and discarded since the castle doesn't recognize them as actual people. Maybe that changes later in the game but like I'll keep this hate agenda against them since I think it's just funnier to keep this in mind.
