Early Access Review
Good stuff, off to a strong start. It has the sauce. Kinda wish it had controller/Steam Deck support. Let's see where this goes.

Good game (after recent updates) that is somewhat unfortunately being buried by Ubisoft A) neglecting Steam for the initial launch of the game and missing the opportune hype window + angering fans (many of which are leaving negative reviews now), and then B) continuing to require Ubisoft Connect, which people are fed up with at this point.

Ubisoft, take note of how 2K just took their launcher out of all their games and how Sony games that have begun to require account linking and sign-in have sold poorly. You're creating barriers to playing your games, and the money or lack thereof will reflect how people receive that. Will update this as I get further.

I won't give this game a thumbs down but I recommend waiting. I'm giving it a thumbs up because it has the BONES of a good game. The underlying magic sauce is there. But the further I get, the more I'm seeing that just needs some more time to bake.

That said, this isn't a new developer. They've been around a while. And they've been through hell to get this game made. I have nothing but confidence that they will smooth out the rough edges, and that this will ultimately become a game that many look back on fondly.

As it stands, I'm going to put it on pause for a bit and go play one of the older Stalker games or Metro Exodus for the third time while I await AI updates, bug fixes, quality of life + performance improvements, etc.

My early impressions are that there is something really special here. Love the card-based gameplay mingled with real time action, auto battling, and turn-based overworld strategy. Need to play more for full impressions but try the demo if you're interested.

I will agree that some complaints are valid. That said, I've still had fun overall.

This is an action RPG closer to the likes of God of War than it is to DA:O or BG3. If you wan't a sequel to Origins, I'll be straight with you: you're looking for Baldur's Gate 3.

Dragon Age stepped away from the DA:Origins formula a long time ago and has leaned further and further into action combat. While that does sadden me, I'll review this game for what it IS, not what it isn't.

Look, for one thing: It's beautiful. I'm constantly taking photos. That hair tech is unrivaled and frankly mind blowing.

The combat feels decent but I don't feel like I have to be very strategic or use my full arsenal to take down enemies, so I'll say it's a bit mindless and flashy.

The quality of writing and voice acting/facial animations bounces between solid and mediocre, as if different people handled different parts of the game. Some characters are growing on me as I play, others I'm indifferent to.

I still like the game overall and am feeling compelled to keep going, if only to see the beautifully rendered zones.

So that's why I give it a thumbs up. Would I mind a true DA:O sequel one day? Of course not. DA:O was and still is my favorite DA game. But I suppose I gave up on that dream already about a decade ago.

Finally, massive kudos to EA for releasing this game on Steam without DRM or the frustrating EA launcher. Plus it supports Family Sharing, has no microtransactions, etc. It's refreshing to see an AAA publisher respect players' preferences and remove literal barriers to entry.

I didn’t realize I hadn’t reviewed this yet. This is one of the best games I’ve played this year. It was perfectly enjoyable solo for the story campaign, and a lot of fun with friends in multiplayer.

If you like action games and big bombastic boss fights, with great art and music throughout, don’t sleep on this one. It’s really a great time and I won’t hesitate to recommend it.

Now that they finally added achievements, time to leave a positive review. I personally really like this game. I had taken a long break from the AC series (Syndicate was the last one I played prior to this) so I was ready for a different take on the formula. Had I played Origins or Odyssey, perhaps my feelings would be different. But for me, this was a breath of fresh air for the series. Granted, I have not completed the game yet (my actual play time is much higher--I carried my save over from Xbox). I really love the Viking theme. I like the story so far. The world feels interesting.

I do think AC games might be getting too bloated and repetitive in places but so far I've just had a great time with this one.

It pains me to leave a negative review because I LOVE Dragon Ball. But I wanted to make folks aware that this game doesn't precompile shaders, which is pretty much required nowadays for DirectX 12 games. They had this same issue with Sand Land, and that never got fixed. It seems they haven't learned.

This is enough to make the experience less than smooth for people who are sensitive to stutter (not everyone is). Every new attack, every new location, every change in camera angle = stutterfest. After you play for many hours to manually generate the shaders, it should become smoother. But that will only last until a game update or driver update.

For a game that cost $110 plus tax, that's just not going to work for me. Wanted to let others know so you can make informed decisions. Also, compared to Xenoverse 2, the controls just don't feel intuitive.

I changed my positive review to negative for Sony forcing a PSN account on the remaster. They've undone that requirement, so back to positive it goes.

God of War Ragnarok could have been an unforgettable experience on PC, but the unnecessary and nonsensical PSN/Sony account requirements tarnish what should have been a flawless port, and breaks offline play on Steam Deck (edit: thankfully, the broken offline mode was recently fixed, but PSN issue still stands which is locking out many of our fellow gamers in over 100 countries around the world). Sony, if you're reading this, stop shackling amazing games with terrible DRM and account dependencies. Especially single player games! Let us enjoy the game we paid for without the extra hoops.
