At this point in my life I've resigned to the fact that face-to-face games are nigh impossible to organize and schedule, games over the internet are much more convenient. Is it expensive if you want everything? Yes... but so are the physical books. You choose what's right for you. Roll20 does NOT "do this for free", you will pay MORE for the digital books on Roll20, or spend just as much time importing it yourself. These are officially licensed, and organized and broken up, and are honestly way easier than using physical books. I'd even use this for any face-to-face game that may never happen in the future.
