Spore is a sci-fi survival game about creating an alien and evolving it as time goes on. It came out on September 4th, 2008, and was created by a company called Maxis, owned by Will Wright. Will Wright is known for creating games like SimCity and The Sims franchise. His first creation was Raid on Bungeling Bay. EA was Spore’s publisher.

The game starts out with you being a Cell. Your first goal is to eat the food that applies to your diet types. Before your new game, you can name the planet, choose your character’s diet type, and then begin eating. If you’re a Carnivore, you eat other creatures and meat pieces. If you’re a Herbivore, then you eat plants. You can turn into an Omnivore if you combine the Carnivore mouth and the Herbivore mouth together. Earn DNA Points and pieces to evolve your creature. Once you’re done, you will move to the next stage, Creature, where you grow legs and work on evolving your creature once more. After the Creature stage is the Tribal Stage, the Civilization Stage, and the Space Stage. There is a little tutorial at the beginning of each stage, and stuff that you learn about through the stages.

I love that you can customize your alien whenever you want at any time. My favorite part is the Creature Stage. I haven’t gotten too far into the game to see some of the other stages though, so my opinions on that might change. There are some creatures that have “Epic” before their name. Basically, these are gigantic creatures that attack you and other races in the Creature Stage. Usually, I don’t expect their appearances.

I think the ending for Spore (which I saw on YouTube) is kinda disappointing. I’m not saying it’s bad, it’s just that it could’ve been better.

Overall Ratings:
Graphics: 6/10. The graphics are good, but pretty dated. However, that’s what you get from a 10-year-old game.

Sound and Music: 9/10. There’s a unique sound to each mouth and the music’s great!

Gameplay: 8/10. You have multiple worlds to create an alien in, and you aren’t forced to advance to the next stage. You can also choose what stage you want to be from the beginning once you’ve unlocked those stages.

Replayability: 9/10. The worlds are limited, but you can just delete a game if all of the worlds are taken. You may want to complete a game before doing that though.

If you’re into games like what I described, then you should definitely buy it full price, which is 20 dollars. However, if you aren’t sure, it might still be worthwhile to get it when it’s on sale. Overall, this is one of my favorite games of all time and I definitely recommend it.
