I was actually really pumped for this game, what a massive disappointment.

For starters I had a lot of issues setting up this game with a controller. This was eventually overcome by setting a Generic Gamepad template and tweaking a few other settings.

But what really got on my nerves was the inability to play the game in full screen properly. The best you can do is x4 scaling with full screen but it is letter-boxed with giant black bars at top and bottom of screen. Thankfully, I got refunded -- thanks Valve.

No game in the year 2018 onward should have such poor quality control measures which inhibit basic functionality we've come to expect of a game. This is a sign that other aspects of the game will be flawed before the horse leaves the gate.

This is unacceptable, especially considering that the PS4 version has no such issue. I gave it a chance for 10 min, and found that this game is half baked at best, and does not meet the standards I've come to expect from Steam games.

Further, I also have Ritual of the Night on PS4 but played COTM first because I took it for granted that both games would be great. Oh boy, I was totally wrong! ....(That's the last time i trust a Jim Sterling review).

ROTN is also a half baked potato which plays like a poor man's Trine. In ROTN there is no sense of gravity of physics with the sprites, the graphics are god awful, and there is no real challenge or balance with items and power ups. It does not pay homage to the Castlevania series properly at all -- it's an insult.

The reason I mention ROTN is because both COTM and ROTN were part of a Kickstarter project. Why in god's name do people set lower standard expectations for Kickstarters projects when they are payed up front before the game is release? What motivation do developers have to make a good game if they have already made the dough before the game is even made? There are a handful of good Kickstarter games, but this seems to be the exception to the rule.

It's obvious to see that Kickstarter is used to exploit nostalgia and make squillions without having to properly refine the game and deliver a full product; all that's on offer here is a glorified beta masquerading as a tribute to the Castlevania series.

COTM is yet another "Overwhelmingly Positive" game on Steam, a rating of which it is totally undeserving. This boggles the mind when considering games with infinitely more polish are much more deserving. I don't know where reviews are coming from these days, but I cannot reconcile the positive reviews here with my horrible experience with this game.

If your curious about this game, my advice is to try before you buy. Forget about reviews, they can't be trusted these days. If you get it, hopefully you have a better experience than I did.

An awesome point-and-click adventure with a really nice retro aesthetic. I'll write a more in depth review once I finish the game. In short, I highly recommend buying this game :)

It's a great game. If you're a Sonic fan you won't be disappointed.

Oh and the Denuvo was removed so that's always great.

This game needs a much better review but I'm busy, this is just a place holder to get the Steam sale badge.

I'll update it when I'm not so busy.

Quick update: I'll be updating this to a proper review at some point. For now however, I'm just updating to get the Steam Awards achievement and for no other reason. I should add that Sonic Mania has great music.

If you're a South Park fan you won't be disappointed. I played this on a pretty old laptop hooked up to a TV and was amazed at how well it run. The gameplay animations look exactly like the TV show.

It's been a while since I've watched South Park, but after playing the game now I wanna revisit the entire collection from season 1!

Even if you're not into South Park I still think this game can be enjoyed and appreciated, but only if you don't have lofty sensibilities and hate farting A LOT lol!

It's pretty cool, but it ends rather abruptly. The mouse cursor just popping up at the end was kind of a disappointing anti-climax.

Not scary as I was expecting, but definitely has the potential to be a suspenseful, nail biting horror experience.

Won't say to much about what you should expect to see, but after playing through it it's hard to piece together what it's all about. But that's probably not the point of the game anyway.

I think the style and format is great. Hopefully this idea can be expanded into a longer, complete game. I would buy it.

You will have noticed that I've recommended this game, however there are caveats to this recommendation so pay attention. Yet another case of "if there were a neutral button...".

This game is short. I completed it in ~4h not really trying to do anything special like getting achievements, only exploring the world and solving puzzles. I'll revisit this to get the achievements later but that probably won't take much longer.

Prerequisites for enjoying this game
  • Enough time to play through one sitting with no interruption. ~4h should do it.
  • A rainy day. Preferably an evening where there's a thunderstorm.
  • An appreciation for a moving story.
  • Run the game in 1080p: this is a must. 4k looks nice but you'll have problems (small fonts, random black screens). It still looks nice at 1080p.
Personally, I really dislike this style of game.

The reason for this is that the player movements are basically spoon fed to you. If you run towards a gap between two ledges you will automatically complete the jump (there's no jump button). Now I understand this gameplay mechanic probably has a lot to do with controlling the two brothers with one controller, so I won't dwell on this. But the gameplay itself is linear, and it feels like the equivalent of bumper bowling in terms of how restrictive the world exploration feels. Once you figure out the controls you won't die very much in this game.

The puzzles don't feel challenging at all, hence there is no real sense of gratification or satisfaction in solving them. If you're the sort of person who can figure out that the square peg goes in the square hole etc. you'll do fine. More attention to this area of the game would have made me give this game a more favourable review; this is the area I felt let down by the most.

Even though there were a few short brilliant moments in terms of surprises and the control mechanic and puzzle solving I felt that much more could have been done to make them more challenging. Again, this is something else I won't dwell on because the creators of this game may have justified to themselves using simpler puzzles so that there aren't significant road blocks in experiencing the story.

The strengths of this game are graphics and sound which are generally nice, but I think the story itself, which is the key selling point for this game, suffers from poor plot choices, some of which border on being thoughtless gimmicks at certain points, which do an injustice to the initial strong development of the story and characters.

In summary, this is more of an interactive movie than a game. At least in my eyes.

If I put aside my predilections and accept this game for what it is then it was a rather pleasant departure from the games I normally play. If you like solving challenging puzzles, then you won't derive much joy in this department from this game. But if you appreciate a more story-oriented game which is easy to finish then it might be the game for you. Still, I can only recommend it when it is on sale because of its length.

Really enjoy this game. It's an awesome brawler that will destroy your controller and hands as you progress to the later levels. This is my temporary review for this game, I'll get around to a proper one another time.

I really have to give this a proper thoughtful review at some point. For the time being I want to make sure this gets two big thumbs up from me, this game is so deserving of very high praise from the graphics to the soundtrack to the gameplay.

I have only a few very minor neuteral/negative things to say that they are probably not even worth mentioning as they don't detract from the fun of playing the game. I will edit this to include more detail some othe time. All I will say for now is make sure you do not watch any spoilers before playing this little gem of a game. 8/8

I don't understand the negative reviews. This game is truly awesome!

Most missions require stealth and a degree of planning and premeditation. The game requires patience and a longer attention span than other games. Unfortunately, lot of feeble minded dullards don't posess these qualities.

The music also really helps set the mood and the event loops give me a thrill, a rush, and a sense of imminent danger which is exhillerating.

The UI is beautiful, everything is laid out clearly and it has a translucent, high-tech vibe, you would have to be a complete numbskull to have any issues navigating around this. Mentally deficient meat heads who have a below average IQ will struggle with this game.

However, if you're into Bladerunner and cyberpunk asthetics and have a strong liking for strategy games you will fall in love with this one as I have done.

Nope. Once loved it now hate it. If you are a chef and make me a delicious cake, I will love and respect you. However, if you are a chef who is also a con artist and a thief you will not get business from me. Once upon a time, this was a big thumbs up. But now due to ridiculous DLC and pricing I have lost any fondness I have for this game. Here's a video explanation of Paradox interactive's Cityskylines business model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj5RYdhtJHo
EDIT: I've just discovered that the T&Cs pretty much state that Paradox is hardcore spying on you and collecting metadata to better improve the 'experience' of the game. And this includes contacting people regarding information and comments. No thanks! Shove it.
