It's fast. It's fun. It also outstays its welcome by the last third of the game, but good overall.

The most apparent thing about this game is how true it feels to the original material. That being said, the original material in this case seems to be CoC pen and paper RPG, rather than Lovecraft's prose. What I mean by that is it feels more streamlined, with everything connected to the Cthulhu mythos and without any mentions of irl superstitions or ancient cults and so on, which are quite prevalent in L's works. It's Cthulhu the Franchise first and foremost.
In gaming terms, it's a scary walking sim, not completely unlike Outlast or Amnesia, although it's decidely more eerie and unsettling than terrifying. It's not above a few jumpscares in the latter half, but that's about all, don't expect adrenaline rushes here. There's also a short FPS section, where you shoot some cultists, but it really just feels out of place.
Technically a mixed bag, with awful characters models and animations being the biggest offence. On the other hand locations are very atmospheric and well made in technical terms, same can be said about props, like antique clocks, telephones or furniture. Lots of great details.
RPG elements are sound and seem to affect your path, although it's hard to really tell after a single play through. It's even harder to imagine doing a second play through, but I just might load the last save file to pick another ending, becuase the game have those and that's cool.
All in all, I picked it on a sale and wasn't dissapointed.

As far as retro, pixel-art platformers go this one is well made. It's a bit easier than genre average, but last screens are definetely not too easy. It has great chiptune music score and that is its strongest point, as it seems to overuse single gameplay mechanic and generally doesn't feature so much content. Thankfully it does not recycle rooms or puzzles and the game ends before it gets boring.

Rather a strategy than a mindless shooter, HM delivers a very modern concept in a retro wrapping. One of the very few indie titles with a great metascore rating, which does not seem grossly exaggerated.

Amazingly good retro shoot'em up. Short, but it's all about quality over quantity. Easy to beat, hard to master.
