TLDR: Good rainy day title. If you are in a slump or otherwise trying to burn a little time and have clicked into the reviews of this game that is in your library but you never played, go ahead and give it a shake.

This is a lot closer to being a Visual Novel / Hidden Item Hunt than other games western audiences would expect to find on Steam. I personally wouldn't put it in any 'adventure' genre as that implies there are enemies or mechanics or choices to make, which are not features in this game.

Most of the 'gameplay' is basically 'find the next doodad' and there is no agency afforded to the player, nor will you find faceless/voiceless characters for the player to self-insert with. This is strictly a story of the characters within the game. You will spend the entire game clicking items and reading what the characters have to say about those items. Also, unlike a stereotypical VN there are no routes, bad ends, or alternate ends of any sort.

That said, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. I bought this game on sale and I came away believing I had a decent experience with it. I did like the story and the little sequels that it came with. There are also some hints at a meta-story if you are into that sort of thing.

And to the Japanophiles out there: This is decent entry level. If you are looking for your next fulfilling VN, you should probably take a rain check on this one despite your friends' rave reviews.
