Updated Review: I was correct. The devs have since fixed the issues and the games now in a great state. Do recommend.

Original review: Not ready yet - needs put back in the oven. Check back in 6 months.

If you love WH40K, you'll love this.

Absolutely everything I wanted as a sequel to Space Marine and arguably WWZ too.

A real strong foundation as a proper live service game too, with a enjoyable campaign, PvP mode and importantly for me atleast, the PvE Operations mode.

Given the devs support of WWZ over the years, I'm excited to see what they do with this moving forward.

A really solid 8/10 shooter set in the Aliens universe.

I really enjoyed the game, but its certainly got some problems.
It's got that Double-A quality too it, not Triple-A quality you'd hope for.
As such, its the usual things you'd expect from Double-A.

Slightly rough visuals, occasional bugs, a few balancing problems. Nothing game shattering that necessarily take away from the fun or experience.

I would say, if you don't much care for the Aliens franchise, then this probably isn't for you.

Really fun rogue-like with a surprising amount of depth to the upgrade system and a pretty excellent story/voice cast.
Great fun in coop.
Similar to the Hades game.
I think priced perfectly for what it is although a little bit buggy and I'm hoping for some post-launch support on this one.

Not for everyone!

Great little detective noir game - although its mostly just a case of going prompt to prompt - so very "walking simulator".
But the setting, story and voice acting are really good and really carry the experience.
The little evidence gathering (a bit like Cyber Punks brain dance mechanic) and a evidence linking mini-game (a bit like the Sherlock Holmes games) at least add some actual game play to the whole experience.

And my god - its Beautiful.

I cannot recommend this.
The UI/UX alone is a deal breaker, coupled with a generally awful upgrade/levelling system.
Additionally, its lost a lot of the thematic elements of Pay Day 2.

A real step backwards in my opinion.

When this first launched - the gameplay was solid and the soundtrack was excellent.
But almost everything else around those two things was absolutely awful.

Bugs, crashes, lack of story, incomplete features, actual "Coming soon" mechanics, microtransactions.
Just terrible.

1 year on, and the devs have stuck with it and addressed almost all those complaints and the game is frankly in a great state now. Not perfect, but certainly good. Its a shame it didn't launch in this state and we could have had a year of improvements from this starting point.

I now recommend for anyone that likes Coop, WH40K and/or Vermintide

Update Oct 2024:
With the most recent itemisation update I'd argue this game is now FINALLY in a state it should have been on release, and arguably at a 2.0 status.
As such, I do recommend it now for new players coming on board as the progression system feels like its finally all there.

Happy hunting rejects!

The alien looks good, the maps decent.
I'm a little disappointed they've kept the hooks, same old lockers and generator looks.
Just seems lazy to not atleast theme them a bit.
Like, the alien should be "hooking" you up onto a slime wall with an egg in front of you.
the generators could be computer terminals.
And the lockers... well lockers - but metalic.

For the price it also only comes with the default skin, with additional skins costing microtransaction money. So that's not so good.
I'd argue this is overpriced as it is but if you love Alien - then you'll want it.

As an Aliens fan - this games awesome.
It's certainly in the "AA" category of game, where you can 'feel' the budget limitations but there's a definite passion and love for the source material to be found here.

The main gameplay kind of reminds me of the series Full Spectrum Warrior where you have no specific control over an individual marine but control the squad as a whole, with some specials that call upon the individuals within the squad.
Combine that with an XCom style base management aspect and the whole thing works really well.

I'm hoping the game sells well enough it allows them to swing back and revisit some of the areas that could be updated relatively easily with patches (audio lines primarily - needs some variation in number and tone from stealthed to stressed to all out action. As it is, theres one set of MAYBE a dozen repeated lines).
I'm hoping DLC also adds some variety beyond another Weyland Yutani set of corridors and rooms.

Solid 7/10 gameplay experience that for an Aliens fan is more a 9/10. Great work on trying something different with the license and the genre.
