PLAY IT IN WINDOWED MODE FOR THE BEST UI.
Then you can alt-enter to full screen
Most of the negative reviews are due to the fact if the game is started in full screen, the UI is too cluttered.

That aside, the board game is fantastic and this implementation is top notch.

Just remember.

WINDOWED MODE then alt-enter.

Great board game with a theme that really fits well into the game's mechanics. Evolve your creatures to survive and beat out your opponents using various trait cards. Be the first to eat from the water hole and deny your opponent food to live. Become a carnivore and don't bother with the water hole and just eat your opponents. Evolve your creature to climb trees and avoid your carnivorous opponent or become too large for your opponent to eat. Lots of strategies you can employ to win.

Definitely a thumbs up.

A fresh take on the deck-building genre.

Beautiful art that's easy on the eyes and a smart UI makes for easy play.

Love it.

I don't own the board game, but after playing this I might have to pick it up. You basically travel around the 16 tiles, each having actions associated with them, buying and selling wares trying to be the first player to collect a number of gems. You start with a small wheelbarrow that only holds a few goods, but there's a tile on the board you can visit several times and upgrade your wheelbarrow to carry more goods, which you'll have to do, as some gem awarding tiles require more items than your beginning barrow can carry. When your barrow is fully upgraded you get a gem. You move 1 or 2 spaces on a turn and have to leave one of your assistants behind on the tile when you perform the action associated with that tile. When you've left behind all 4 of your assistants you can no longer perform any actions and either have to backtrack to pick up your assistants, one at a time, with the ability to perform the actions on those tiles again, or make your way back to the fountain tile where you can retrieve all your assistants at once and start a new journey. When its your turn, you have to move to a new tile, so you can't just sit on a tile and perform its action over and over.

The game is very puzzle-like, you have to plan your route very carefully and efficiently. If you move onto a tile already occupied with competing merchants, you have to pay them 2 money before you can do the action on that tile, so sometimes you may have to go elsewhere in order not to come up short on money that you may have set aside to buy a gem or upgrade your wheelbarrow, and visit that tile after they leave. There are several tiles that award gems, and the meat of the game is running around the board collecting the prerequisites for those specific gem awarding tiles.

There are different board layouts, a beginner, an advanced, and random which makes for great replayability.

Overall a very enjoyable game I highly recommend.

Update:
I had to change to "not recommended" based on developers not fixing bugs in a timely fashion and working on other projects before finishing this one. My apologies to anyone who may have taken my review into consideration before making a purchase.

Update 2: Changed back to positive as most of the bugs seem to be fixed.

Fantastic game. Love the solo challenge. Developers promise more to come and I hope they deliver.

As of now, there are some bugs and the game is a little rough around the edges. You can't read all the text on the cards without multiple clicking to open up a description, it seems like a popup description when hovering over the card would have solved this. During the card selection phase, I couldn't find an option to view the planet to see if one of the cards I was considering could work (place a city between 2 cities on the board). But despite the shortcomings, I highly recommend.

Definitely worth the somewhat high $25 price tag as I feel like I'm going to get a lot of hours out of it.

Review switched to postive since they are releasing original Williams artwork with parental options.

Censoring the original graphics on Williams tables is unacceptable. I wish Farsight could have hung on to that license. I want to play them exactly as I remembered them. There are no children in my house yet I have to suffer through censorship.

I'm giving it a thumbs up for potential. The implementation of the game is very rough around the edges atm and if you want something polished, you should probably wait. Scythe itself is a great "resource engine" building game that's well balanced and full of interesting strategic decisions. I love the fact that combat has some negative consequences and has to be weighed carefully before initiating and the game doesn't just revolve around combat. It will be well worth the asking price if they can fulfill their roadmap. I look forward to watching this game develop.

-Multiplayer has not been implemented as of this review.

-Tutorial is somewhat disjointed but improvements are on the roadmap. I recommend looking at the rulebook for now.

It's like Sid Meier's Civilization series boiled down into a card game. Build farms, Iron works, libraries, temples, wonders, and much more. Use science to develop new technologies enabling a more powerful military and advanced buildings. Keep your people happy or lose productivity. Manage your population and resources wisely or suffer waste. Build a strong military to intimidate opponents with aggressions to destroy their buildings or producton, or start an all out war. Install great leaders to give your civilization powerful advantages. There is no player elimination, the player with the most culture points at the end of the last Great Age wins. Good multiplayer and a strong single player AI to round things out.

Great tutorial is icing on the cake.
