Despite numerous recommendations to bypass this title and go straight into WOTR, I wanted to give this one a fair shake -- and overall, I'm glad I made that choice. Story was decent, I liked many of the companions, and the world is beautifully designed.

My biggest issues were with pacing (especially in the final third of the game) and wild fluctuations in difficulty -- the latter almost caused me to abandon the game during the final act, but after numerous retries and long strings of swear words, I finally managed to push through.

Probably won't revisit this one again, but I still think it's worth a look for fans of the genre, and I don't regret the time I spent with it. Now, I'm looking forward to seeing what else Owlcat has to offer.

I tried Pillars of Eternity a few different times over the years, and it never quite resonated with me. Not sure what happened this time around, but everything finally clicked into place, and I wound up really enjoying it. The writing and storytelling is superb -- especially after you get through the general slog of Act I -- and I appreciate the variety of ways in which objectives can be accomplished. Voice acting is rather inconsistent, but not bad enough to be a dealbreaker. Definitely worth the time for a playthrough.

If you're expecting this to hew closely to the style of the previous games, you're likely to be disappointed -- it's much more of a pure action RPG, with a heavy focus on combat and big, exciting setpieces, and very little in the way of party management or tactical planning. I can see why this might be vexing to other longtime fans of the series, but as someone who has loved this universe since DA:O, it mostly lived up to my expectations.

Gorgeous environments, thrilling sequences, great supporting characters and some effective emotional beats -- couldn't really ask for much more, and as a middle-aged gamer with far less time on my hands these days, being able to complete all of the side content (excluding collection stuff) and still roll credits in less than 60 hours is a big plus in my book. Gonna take a break to catch up on some other titles, but will likely revisit this for an alternate playthrough in the near future.

Hadn't played this one since the original, non-remastered release. It's still fun as a grimdark Legend of Zelda, and the fresh coat of paint from the "Warmastered" edition is a nice upgrade. Also, I appreciate a game that doesn't overstay its welcome; being able to finish up in less than 20 hours and still feel like I got my money's worth is pretty great.

I hadn't played this since the original release on consoles, and revisiting (with the help of some QoL mods) was an excellent decision. The writing and characters are even better than I remembered, and the gameplay hasn't aged too terribly. Definitely glad I made time for this before the release of The Veilguard.

Took awhile to get around to this one, but glad that I did. Pacing is a bit worse than its predecessor, but the writing and characters are in a class all their own.

Took me quite awhile to finally get around to this one, but I'm glad I did. Loved nearly every minute I spent in Night City and Dogtown.

Checked this out on recommendation from a friend, and fell in love with its weirdness.

Played this on console when it first came out, decided to revisit before the sequel drops. Solid game, solid Star Wars story. No complaints.

The depth and intricacy of the storytelling is fantastic. Great characters, great writing and a thoroughly engaging narrative, full of some truly tough choices that have long-lasting impact. Pro tip: switch to the Japanese voices.
