I've yet to finish this game, but I've played enough to be disappointed with it overall. A game that allows player choice? Not really. Open-world roaming? Nope, pretty linear. Multitude of combat options? Pretty limited. The game does succeed in its wonderful art direction, but the rest of the game doesn't stack up, voice acting being the worst, almost to a laughable degree. Pass on this game until you can play a friend's copy first.

The title doesn't really reveal much about how this game is, so let's get that out of the way first. Darksiders is Legend of Zelda meets God of War. In other words, fluid, viscious combat blended with dungeons requiring puzzle-solving focused around skill acquisition. The product is a finely crafted, engaging adventure with great pacing. You will no doubt enjoy Darksiders if you pick it up, it was designed with fun in mind.

Not a great PC port, actually a pretty troublesome one, but a game that deserves to be played. No artificial difficulty here, just a world that is as beautiful as it is deadly. Work hard to survive in this action RPG, and although it is safe to say prepare to die, also don't be afraid to confront the demons behind the next door. What doesn't kill you, makes you, most assuredly, stronger. And don't use your keyboard, get that controller hooked up.

Haha, this game started as an interest of Bioshock Infinite pre-order merch, which to this day don't know if I actually received. Brought to you by Lazy 8 Studios, who was responsible for the Industrial Revolution pre-order game comes Cogs! This game is awesome as a puzzler, that's all it is, wonderfully simple puzzle solving with professional grade presentation and animation. Great game to get some blood flowing to the noggin between breaks or early morning.

Another one-man effort! Cave Story is a brilliant sidescrolling action shooter. Think Metroid. However, the plot, weapon versatility, and genuine challenge will make it a new joy to play. An indie masterpiece and also comes with awesome Christmas and Halloween reskins right out of the box! Set your internal clocks to the appropiate holiday and enjoy.

If you ever wondered what brilliance as a game felt like, this is the best game I can recommend. Braid, built extensively by one guy, Jonathan Blow, is so painstakingly detailed and carefully programmed, that you will experience the percision through your efforts of solving puzzles, enjoying the scenery, and the profound plot. Some would argue it's overambitious and pretentious, but the game needs to be experienced. The gameplay is impeccable and spawned an indie revolution trying to imitate its success.

I've never felt so conflicted about a game. I love what it tries to do, but hate how it does it. Addicting and compelling loot-motivated gameplay, RPG leveling-up, creative weaponry, and wonderful worlds of creative and extremely effective dialogue with references of memes to retro gaming, the first game to do such of what I can recall. But then, once the game loses that honeymoon luster, the game derails and becomes a heartless loot quest with bullet-sponges in the way, but your friends to liven the experience. A game that can't stand alone without the help of being enjoyed with friends comes as a weakness in design. I could have fun with my friends doing things none of us enjoy solely based on the fact we're suffering together. I love this game, one I might have played too much, but it could do so much more to take away its artificial difficulty and push beyond the comfort zone it created for itself.

Blocks That Matter is a game that matters to me. It's beautiful, challenging, and charming. You'll find ways of exploiting the mechanics no doubt, but you'll probably need them to get that bonus at level's end. Essentially, this is a puzzle platformer but also involves a tetrimino mechanic which dictates what structures you can build. The first puzzle platformer after Braid that didn't make me groan miserably.

This game is comparatively much more difficult than its sequel. OMG. It's a turn-off, if you are determined or invincible to frustration, you will enjoy World 2 which is actually easier, and very pretty. This game is tough, especially the rediculous helical obstacles in World 3, SWEET GOLD GIBLETS! I did, however, enjoy the gameplay, visuals, and music. Be warned, your patience will be tested.

Very enjoyable platformer with reactionary music. Not rhythm platforming. Platforming with a rhythm. Wonderful charm in design of characters and levels, challenges for those who enjoy them, and a lengthy game to hold your attention. The first great game of 2013 for retro platformer fans
