Control was the game that convinced me to try Alan Wake. The first couple hours of the game left me a bit unsure of what to think, but after working through the full game I can confidently say that I love it. Sure, the story beats sometimes feel sporadic and the game drags on a bit towards the end. But the core of this game is really great! The mechanics have a lot more depth than I initially gave them credit for and the entire game feels fluid as a result. Alan Wake has Remedy's fun storytelling techniques, so while some bits of the plot felt clunky when initially delivered, the delivery itself is so sincere that the strange bits never stuck with me. This is a wonderful game, rich with character and confidence in its own style.

I really wanted to try this game, but the input lag makes this effectively impossible to play. I tried 6 or 7 different solutions I found online, and none of them worked. Decided I didn't want this game anymore after it pulled me out of the game for a microtransaction, thus breaking fullscreen mode. Not worth your time, unfortunately.

I love this game. The level design torments me, and the balancing and pacing made me learn how people get stress-related injuries. Still, the story and voice acting are great, they help you really get immersed in the world. All the art in the game has tons of character, and it makes me want more of the game in a slightly more polished form. I'll admit, I WAS playing the original DOS version instead of the Veteran Edition, so I shouldn't complain too much about the bugs and balance problems I faced. Still, besides the sewer levels, health distribution, and rats, this game was a fantastic time! Would highly recommend to someone wanting a 90's FPS with a few RPG mechanics, or something with lots of character and atmosphere. If you still aren't sold, check out the Ross Scott review, I almost entirely agree with him on the game.

Early Access Review
I didn't quite realize how much I would like this game. I knew it'd be a great game given all the people who raved about it, but at this point I think The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is kind of flawless? The core gameplay loop is so incredibly fun and challenging, new gamemodes exponentially increase replayability, and I think the mechanics have sold me on bullet hell games AND roguelikes/lites. I adore the story; it's so honest and sweet and queer, and I can't wait for it to be complete. The art is gorgeous and has endless personality, and the music is SO well composed. I've had the soundtrack stuck in my head for weeks on end. This game is making me fall in love with game genres I didn't care about before. Angel, I don't know much about you, but please keep making games. You're very very good at it! <3

This is a really fun game and it pains me to leave it a negative review, but I couldn't make it past the third chapter because of the controls. I adore the writing, art style, and gameplay loop, but the controls are incredibly annoying on this version of the game. I'm using a fully functional PS4 controller (works with other games, at least) and have tinkered with every control setting I could find, but the camera inevitably sometimes flips around and stops me in place at random during the game. It's not a huge deal in the easier portions, but it makes parts of the game genuinely unplayable. I'll update this review if I can figure out any way to get the game to work, but otherwise I'd suggest against playing it with a PS4 controller. It's a shame, I'd love to finish this game some day, since almost everything else about it is very well put together.

Short but cute game! Loved playing it through and will probably buy the DLC when I get a chance. Remember to zoom with the scroll wheel or you'll find it pretty tricky.

Fun game! Got me through a cold this week. The premise is more or less that you drive incredibly dangerous and bouncy cars in races. Playing dirty works well, and the AI's have different cars and skills so you can know who to look out for. It does have some weak spots. The handling gets a bit odd sometimes and getting rammed every 20 seconds can be annoying. I've found that 2-3 AI racers will almost always have better cars than you at the beginning of each class's career, but the cup structure sort of mitigates this. I decided to finish all the career mode sections besides grand finals, and I skipped some of the extra events. Still, Flatout 2 is a solid arcade racer if you have a bit of patience and don't want to take it too seriously.

I enjoyed this game more than I was expecting to beforehand. The story is quite well put together. The combat is fun, though the enemies get pretty tank-y on higher difficulties and in a few particular fights. It's really linear and I'm not the biggest fan of the movement, but the story and combat was enough to carry me through. The game picks up pace towards the last few chapters, and lets you have access to more weapons through the level, which is a nice payoff relative to some earlier bits of the game.

Pretty good HL2 mod. There isn't a ton of depth here, at least not from what I've seen, but it's a fun singleplayer dm-fest with HL2 beta and release enemies. I'm a fan of the variety of weapons, though I sort of wish the buy system was just replaced with more ammo drops. Otherwise, it's a fun HL2 themed game to jump in to once in a while!
