Graphics are surreal combination of FMV and CGI. They definitely turned RTX on. Haha, but seriously the art style is trippy.

On the down side, I really want a skip button and choices don't matter, it's more quicktime style events like, "click really fast", and if you fail it will say "the story didn't go like that". Very linear.

PS: I used an auto-clicker for the end parts as I couldn't click fast enough and didn't want to repeat the same parts.
Install AutoHotkey, save a text file called clickfast.ahk with the following code. When you open it, hold down left click and it will turbo mode after half a second to breeze past the aggressively timed quicktime events:

I'm new to this genre, but this was a fun choose your own adventure movie. Easy to breeze through the alternative choices on subsequent playthroughs. Some decisions wildly change the story and outcome. Film-wise, it's upper B movie. But the interactivity and plots give it more than a B movie value.

Feels like an old light-gun game. The stories are read well by a familiar voice while playing, so even if it's a another monotonous shoot'em up area, you're entertained with fiction based on fact. I'm no history expert but it's his lie, now go live it.

I hope this gets fleshed out without a stupid ending. Could be cool.

DLC is part 3 of the story. Awful compared to the amazing main game. Die over and over. Just luck if you make it to the next area.

The DLC is garbage compared to the excellent main game. It's all broken stealth with 1-hit kills. Extremely frustrating and I wish I didn't buy it.

The first DLC. Part 2 of the game's story, which is decent. But the gameplay is nothing like the main game. You shoot a gun one single time. This is 100% stealth, and it's not fun with all the single hit deaths. I would recommend just watching it on YouTube if interested. Not worth playing yourself.

Steam launch options: +com_skipIntroVideo 1; +r_swapinterval 0; +m_smooth 1
In NVIDIA Control Panel, set game's max FPS to 61 (leave at 30 FPS in game options)
Open %LOCALAPPDATA%, create folder "TangoGameworks", inside that folder create another called "The Evil Within_ng" (Delete this folder after uninstall or it leaves a 1GB file)
Set in-game mouse speed to 1 and lower Windows mouse speed.
