NOTE: i left a negative review for this title because the port wouldn't work on my old pc and i was unable to find a fix. now thankfully it works and runs great on my new rig, so thats good. ill leave my old review below as a warning to people about this title, just to be aware.

NEW REVIEW EDIT: everything i could ever want from an fps.gun-play is tense, rewarding and satisfying, weapons are fully customise-able as are the playstyles and approaches to combat. the story is eerie and fascinating, and the gameworld still looks beautiful even 15 years later. (why don't they make them like these anymore??). AI damage output seems imbalanced even on lower difficulties and the vehicle driving is mid, other than that, this is a banger of a game.

OLD 2019 REVIEW: "Will it run Crysis?" the answer, no no it wont, no it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wont, because this game does not have a windows 10 patch and crashes every time i try to launch it. no patches online and ive already verified the game cache.

I have mixed thoughts on this game. IT IS NOT A BAD GAME, let me make that clear. Its extremely fluid, well structured and very fun to play. The visual design is brilliant, the sound design amazing and it has the best soundtrack of all time. BUT, in another it is completely disappointing to me in many, many ways. The map design on some levels is simply not very good, due to the devs over-relying on the "look further and aim feature" far too much. Most, if not all of the levels are designed with this feature in mind, and it becomes integral on relying on this to complete some. Whilst initially this is fine, it starts to get ridiculous when on some levels you get shot across the map by someone you had no chance in hell of realistically seeing, making the levels no only frustrating, but just flat out unfair. I wish the devs had scaled it back a bit with how much they relied on this feature, but too much of a good thing strikes again I guess. I GET that Hotline Miami is supposed to be hard, but I played through the original many, many times and I can safely say that game never suffers from this huge issue, or even reaches the same levels of difficulty this game does.

The storytelling is alright I suppose and some of the characters are likeable but they over explain many details and questions from the original that I would have preferred to have been ambiguous or simply left out. I know the game is a commentary on violence, which is appreciate, but regardless of "themes", the ending absolutely sucks. If this was a book you could literally finish it with and then everyone died, The End. .

I wish steam had a "mixed" feature because by all means this is not a bad game in the slightest, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it could have been so much better.

Beware: the community is very very toxic, and this game does take a lot of learning.

getting past that, it can be pretty fun
