this game is really good. mechanical depth far beyond what i was expecting. bought this solely on the name value and frankie's art being incredible, but it's genuinely a great rpg and a great horror game. and maybe also a good comedy. it's got some Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness vibes, but the lovecraft/robert chambers stuff is more at the forefront.

the writing is great, the art is peerless, the mechanics are interesting and deeper than you might think. a really fun game.

A really incredible remake and solid port, mechanically. Marred by some of the worst and most flagrantly inaccurate translation in the video game industry. The Dragon Quest series deserves better. People will try to minimize this issue and make it seem like a political thing, but it's strictly an issue of competency and respect. This translation is akin to the 4Kids One Piece translation where Smoker can't smoke cigars and gets renamed Chaser and multiple main characters have entirely rewritten and flanderized backstories, or the Yu-Gi-Oh translation where they rename a character "Joey" and give him a stereotypical new york accent and fully rewrite his character because they think it's funnier that way.

Nearly every character name, location name, spell name, item name, equipment name etc is inaccurate and rewritten, usually as a stupid joke that doesn't exist in the original. Every line of dialogue is punched up like a hollywood movie at best or entirely rewritten at worst. Racist ethnic accents abound. It's a joke. It's so bad it makes me embarassed to say I'm a fan of this series. When people talk about why Dragon Quest isn't successful in the West, this is why. The West gets a disrespectful rewritten script that barely qualifies as a translation. This is the kind of thing that Working Designs would do while Victor Ireland made racist jokes about Japanese people and added bugs and softlocks to the code. If Yuji Horii knew the kind of stuff these guys were pulling he'd probably have a heart attack.

probably the best d&d combat game since toee. but 5th edition's flaws are everywhere. deeply wish this was a 4e game lol

this is at least as good as metal gear solid or zone of the enders or boktai or snatcher etc and i hope kojima never stops making games. people are literally too dumb to follow the story because its actually subtle and characters lie and omit information and are themselves ignorant and just guessing at the real story half the time.

mechanically, innovative and hilarious. its a walking simulator but actually a walking simulator, get it? but it's more than that too. its really fun and it will make you curse.

story? its an incredibly subtle, sweet, and sad thing that proposes what if the things we use to connect with each other, like love, family, patriotism, friendship, etc were all potentially as harmful as the things we use to drive people away? death stranding is about how the tools we use are tools, and it's important to not anthropomorphize them, but simultaneously, that our loved ones and friends are our loved ones and friends, and not tools.

This is one hundred percent, without question, no lie, the wokest possible game ever made. Now that I have played this, I am qualified to be Martin Luther King, Jr. (pbuh). It is better than Escape From Monkey Island, just for example.

good ♥♥♥♥, reminds me of an old westwood game or somtehing interplay would publish. love the music and lore, also all the pilot portraits are neat. the game is a lot of fun and i like crouching in a mech and opening heavy fire on everyone

its just kind of boring, i guess. none of these batman games are very good, but this is the best one. still, not my cup of tea. totally subjective review.
