the rare enjoyable hero shooter.

The TTK is in a pretty good spot to allow for individual skill expression while still emphasizing teamplay. The majority of other hero shooters make it feel impossible to put a team on your back thanks to tanky units that are unkillable without ults/focus fire, or the skill floor being way too low on the majority of heroes. There are some unfavorable matchups, but no 1v1 feels truly unwinnable.

In terms of movement, there is no strafe acceleration/deceleration: you are able to instantly change direction and be at max velocity instantaneously, much like Overwatch. This makes dodging a little less interesting than other high TTK games imo. But still, general movement is not bad. While there is not nearly as much room for creativity as something like TF2 or Apex, it's enough to feel like you can break a few ankles.

There are a handful of stuns in the game that are, for the most part, tied to high committal or difficult to land skills. They haven't been that oppressive despite my dislike of stuns in FPSes, but certain units like Zaku II Melee can give me that feeling of dread from other hero shooters, where a player with half a brain cell can wipe your team and be unkillable if your team isn't well coordinated. Ults are probably the most annoying thing you'll experience coming from more traditional FPS games, with a lot of them have some degree of counterplay, and others that are absurdly strong for how easy they are to use.

GUNEVO aim is pretty hard by modern FPS standards. With instant acceleration, dashes, and the ability for anyone to headshot, the skill ceiling for aim is very high. I've been dying to play a modern FPS that rewards high TTK combat skill, but I didn't expect it to come from an OW ripoff with a Gundam skin.

The monetization model is the only reason people are so negative about this game. 4/5 of the unlockable units are very strong and you can only pick up one per season. GUNEVO is the kind of game where player skill matters way more than the unit you're playing, but I guess that doesn't make the monetization any less predatory ^^;
