It's very easy to pick up, and while I don't recommend trying to use VR due to the difficulty it creates with fine detailing, it is an option for those who have a headset. The game also has a relatively active content creation and modding community, and multiple places are available for downloading modded scenery, buildings, layouts, and trains, now including the Steam Workshop with the addition of the new Workshop-based prop modding and "QuickMod" system. Additionally, if you wish to create your own mods, there are copious tools that are easy to use and work great with the game.
