Beautiful. Story-rich. Challenging.

Ori and the Blind Forest has become one of my favorite games played. It's a great story-driven platformer that tears you up inside in just the first few minutes, then continues to tear you appart with its challenging environment. There's no handholding and telling you what different obstacles in the game do, you just try and fail and succeed. You start with a limited set of skills and gain new ones as you progress and get to them. You aren't just handed them, which makes it actually be something you achieve. It's a lot like Castlevania in terms of map layout. You're not warped to different places, you walk in one open world and have to get to your destination on your own. I don't want to spoil anything, all I will say that my heart went racing quite a lot during my game-time.

The atmosphere in this game is just... so awesome. I have no other words. So. Very. Beautiful. The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous! Character design is perfect and nothing in this game made me feel like it was missing something. I was enjoyable to go back through areas I had already been in and complete them 100%. Usually I'm not such a super fan of that as it just seems like a hassle to do..but here.. No such thing. <3

As for playtime you can complete this game in 10 hours give or take; if you don't waste time or go out of your way to 100% anything. It may not have mega quantity, but it certainly has quality. All over the place.

The only two negative things about this, which is circumventable, is that playing this on the keyboard with the vanilla key-bindings is rather uncomfortable. So playing this with a controller is probably the better way to do it. (Except it might make the dash-arrow placement a bit slower) And the second thing is that after you beat the story you can't actually go back and complete absolutely everything; as in find all the items and rooms hidden in the world. Which I thought was very dissappointing. :'c I'd love to just jump around in the game after I've beaten the story.

All in all; if you enjoy a good platformer with a great emotional story and beautiful visuals & audio then this game is for you.
