I went into this game expecting a bad platformer (Respawning right where you are? You can't have any challenge with that!). What I ended up finding is a puzzle game, and a pretty unique one.

Rather than having a set of rooms that you solve through using the quirky 3D mechanic, it's actually about exploring the world, gathering clues to understand how the various artifacts you find work. Somewhat similar to an in-game ARG that you can solve yourself.

Some puzzles can get complicated and the game sometimes expects you to make some pretty long leaps in logic. But once you figure it out after thinking about it for a while, you feel very clever and it can also bring light to another mystery elsewhere in the world that was getting you stumped earlier, which is quite rewarding and makes you want to go check it out immediately.

The ambiance is also a big part of the game, with it's pleasing atmospheric soundtrack and the wildly varying environments that you discover. This reinforces the whole "exploring the world" aspect of the game, and is very successful. You can also go look for deeper meanings to the implied events that happen in the game. I personally was very content just looking for puzzles and smelling the roses, but it's certainly there for people who like it, and it adds to the overall mysterious ambiance.

In the end, I was pleasantly surprised, and quickly found myself caught in the mystery-solving, ending up with a few pages of scribbles and a lot of screenshots taken as notes. If you like investing yourself into ARG-like puzzles you'll certainly get caught like me.

Now I feel sorta bummed out for Fez 2.

I bought this game because I loved the soundtrack. It's a shame it's the only good part about the game.

The game isn't bad, but it's rather mediocre. The main levels are filled with enemies that oppose almost no resistance, contrasted with bosses who have attacks that are literally impossible to dodge with your slow character. To compensate, you have a lot of health, and the ability to buy health packs from the pause menu, which breaks the already low difficulty. Quite a long ways from the twitchy experiences of Mega Man and Metal Slug.

The game also has that unpolished feel that screams "indie" in a bad way. Weird animations, unbalanced weapons (Why use grenades at all when I can do the same damage in 3 shots), cliche story (humens r EVIL!1)... It's also pretty short (~2 hours), though 100% completion probably needs a lot more due to the upgrade system needing to redo levels to gather materials.

All in all I'm prettry disapointed, but at least I'll have some good songs to add to my library. (click)[hyperduck.bandcamp.com]

Dark Souls is hard. But it is fair. Underestimate the enemies, rush into mobs, get surrounded, be too risky, and you will not be forgiven. From your deaths comes experience, and slow but steady progression.
Then you reach the boss and your progression is brutally halted. You try many times, and die as many times. You start learning the boss's attacks and weaknesses, but continue dying. You change your strategy a few times, but die again. However, you keep trying, and when you finally beat him, the rewarding feeling of earning your victory was worth more than any other game can give you.

Dark Souls does not hold your hand. Apart from the few tutorial messages at the beginning, and NPCs who may or may not be trusted, you are on your own. You will go where you aren't supposed to, and die many times. You will also find secrets that will blow your mind, even after 100+ hours played.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a challenge. My favorite game of 2012.

Great game if you like good teamplay. Marines feel like a good FPS, aliens are pretty original and fun to control, and being a commander makes you play Starcraft but ordering real players instead of units. So far the community is great and there is plenty of comunication, makes it even more interesting.
