Better (Lack of) Dampeners [Looking for Maintainer]

Description
Better Lack of Dampeners

This script fixes your ship so it flies like its in space when its in gravity. When you turn the dampeners off, you don't fall! You simply drift around. Thats it.

Github [github.com]
Feel free to fork this, If you make a workshop page I will happily link it here.

Instructions
Simply load the script into a programmable block and turn your dampeners off.

it will ignore blocks with '---' in the name.

For those who don't know how to use a Programmable Block

is compatible with vector thrust 2 ?

I've added this to my script as a command that can be turned on and off. I fixed the idle thrust bug, added configuration for acceleration and scope of control, and added a check for static grids and locked landing gear (including magnetic plates). I tested controlling multiple grids, and it works properly, although I think the thrust strength needs some tweaking yet.

Vermillion, your math seemed to be fine. I just added the move vector in with the gravity vector and it worked. I probably studied it for two weeks, though, trying to figure out what the vector math was doing, but in the end I used your method and everything worked fine. I totally rewrote the code, but the calculations are the same.

Sorry, it does not work across connectors. if there are thrusters connected on a grid that is connected via something other than a merge block, it will probably be firing wrong (in the wrong orientation).

iirc i tried to make that work, but screwed up the maths somehow, and was happy enough with the 1-grid behavior that i didn't bother debugging it.

I have stopped making scripts in SE over a year ago now.
If someone else would like to make a fork of this feel free.

Great script, works like a charm. I'm now hoping you're still active and could your script prevent sub-grid drift?

Okay I tried around a bit and I think I can confirm that it does not work while the other ship is docked at the connector. In this case I am controlling the large grid ship, a small grid ship is docked. The thrust set by the program seems to get undone each cycle.

I finally managed to make it only use blocks of a group, that works. Please let me know if you want the code snippet.

I had it working, I am even using it on a small ship that I build yesterday, that is now docked in my main ship. But in my main ship, the script does not work anymore! The Programmable Block of the docked ship is turned off, just for the case that the script crosses connectors (does it)? I am not sure but it seems to hold the speed for one second but then I drop to the planet...
What is wrong?

put this script on my ship to mess with read the pb and was like this probs doesnt work
fires the ship up and my jaw dropped amazing script and works Flawlessly

Hi @Vermillion Your script works incredibly well, thanks for that. I don't know if you still script, but I have some kind of a request.

I'm making a tug ship to grab stuff and move around. The problem I have is that when I grab something, the mass of what I'm grabbing isn't considered by the native dampening system and my ship drops slowly (or fast if what I'm grabbing is too massive).

Your script somewhat fixes that behaviour, but then I have to "dampened" manually in every directions.

I was wondering if it was possible to modify your script (or rather make another version) so it would use the native dampening for all directions except up/down? So no "drift" left/right and forward/backward so the ship would just stop dropping.

I understand if this is too much to ask but it's worth a try.

Well found how to get a local version of the scripts but don't know why 2 scripts just refuse to work like intended... Sorry for the spam
