Being a city of science, Helix City has many laboratories running tests at one time. Before the reactor was built, this wasn’t possible. The lab equipment draws so much power that it once drained the entire planet's power grid in one go. Luckily, to restore power all you had to do was shutoff all the lab equipment. Because of this, it was decided in 2080 that Helix City needed to upgrade its power supply. In 2090 the reactor was complete. Every few months or so, modifications are made to the reactor. These modifications increase the power efficiency and output of the reactor but also make maintenance more complicated. Eventually it got to the point where not even the scientists who originally designed it know how it works any more. It just works. And at some point saws were added. No one knows why.
