about:
This game is inspired by Buddhist meditations on presence of mind, and as such is to be an excercise in this discipline. The point of the game is to absorb the elements of your psyche that threaten to overtake you; to observe them and let them pass through, as if watching water on a bridge. A thought arises, you observe it, let it pass through you, and let it go. By accepting these forces, you move closer to your own...

how to play:
use the arrow keys to move around the screen to avoid being ensnared
by a mental construct. every three seconds you avoid contact, your
prana increases and causes you glow. continue to charge until your
aura turns blue. once you have built enough energy, you can absorb a
construct by getting close to one (or more) and pressing the spacebar
or ctrl keys.
if you are ensnared by a mental construct, you will lose some prana.
if you not have enough prana to withstand the contact, you will lose
a concentration point. The session is over if you lose all
concentration points (4 total per game) or successfully absorb all 9
of presented constructs.

bad ass update! The "you aren't the things you hate" level killed me a couple of times! I love it, keep it up.

yeah its pretty cool I wish I could check it out but I dont have GameMaker. definitely keep it up though I think the "exercises in philosophy" disguised as video games idea is great!

Thanks, dextronaut! I'm looking into creating more "exercises in philosophy" disguised as video games. I'm thinking the next one will be an adventure game exploring concepts of self and how its influence.

love the concept

At dafa0904's and other's suggestion, I tweaked player and construct speed and behavior to scale to levels. This should provide a more challenging game experience, rather than the perhaps perceived 'dull' experience. Considering that I'm entering this in the game contest, this change seems to be appropriate and not too far from the overall intention.

Thanks for the compliments and constructive criticism! I will look into implementing a bit more randomness tonight. I've gone back and forth about increasing difficulty as well as number of constructs per level. I think I might have a solution that might work - increase speed and randomness on each level but only as constructs are eliminated. That way there is at least a consistent (if not increasing) level of difficulty, rather than the plateau that happens once you've eliminated one or two each level.

Great sound and I love the concept. I would've added an alarm event to the mental construct objects just for a bit more of a challange (kinda predictable to a point). keep it up!
