Era - 2000s - NJPW

A mainstay in New Japan's top ranks during the 2000s, Yuji Nagata paired his strong amateur background with a hard hitting shoot style. Known as Blue Justice, Nagata has won just about every honor available to him in NJPW.

Early in the decade, Antonio Inoki decided to test Yuji Nagata by sending him to fight in MMA. Nagata's excellent credentials did not help him in either of his mixed martial arts fights, but considering that he faced Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko Cro Cop in his only two pro fights, one might be inclined to cut the man some slack.

God, you're so right about Nagata's MMA fights. It would be one thing to put him against some low level or journeyman fighter(s), but he faced two of the greatest heavyweights of all time. Ridiculous. Inoki was a bit of a jerk at the time. Always liked Yuji dating back to his WCW tenure. Great edit - love your collection.
