Era - Mid/Late 1990s - WCW

As the n.W.o. threatened to decimate WCW in 1996, it seemed that only a few wrestlers stood against the invaders with any effectiveness. Sting seemed to lead the charge, but a series of mind games from the n.W.o. led him to take a prolonged absence from the ring.

When he returned, Sting took on the image of a vengeful spirit and appeared in the rafters from week to week, occasionally decending to attack, finally winning the WCW Heavyweight title from Hollywood Hogan in a controvercial match at Starrcade 97.
