Phil Stevens grew up in a fishing village located in southern Maryland, in a family in poverty. Like most modern wrestlers nowadays, his dream was to become a wrestler. He first heard about WWE back in 2000, through a video game his mom's friend, who was staying over for a while, brought him one day. He continued to play more WWE games, until in 2004, he stumbled across the WWE TV shows and he became a frequent watcher. He grew up watching the likeness of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Ric Flair, Chris Benoit, Undertaker and many more.

Because of his lack of progress in school, he was homeschooled. As he became an adult, he had no plans to move out, make new friends, get a job, or whatever he needs to do, until his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, that drove him to get his GED. He then got a job to get enough money to enroll into a wrestling school in New York and become a wrestler.

A while after he graduated from the wrestling school, he debuted in ESWF. His first match was against a opponent that was twice as big as him. His years of playing video games, watching wrestling and checking the wrestling news online, has helped him win his first match, after he repeatedly targeted his opponent's legs and made him tap out to the Figure Four leg lock. Both the fans and the wrestlers backstage was in awe of how talented Stevens was. He was capable of performing technical moves, wrestling moves, high flying moves, (even powerful moves!), that earned him the nickname "The Hybrid." He then went on to win the ESWF's top championship title in 6 months.
