Era - 1980s /1990s - NJPW / UWF / Fujiwara Gumi

Yoshiaki Fujiwara was a disciple of Karl Gotch, assimilating his dangerous joint locks with a Muay Thai striking background and a propensity for leveling opponents with strong headbutts. Fujiwara was the initial graduate from the New Japan dojo, and was a foundational member of the UWF. After the UWF dissolved, Fujiwara spent a second run with NJPW, and another with a reformed UWF before founding his own organization, Pro Wrestling Fujiwara Gumi.

Fujiwara's most famous move was his deadly side arm hold, known in Judo as Wakigatame, but in pro wrestling terms, is often called the Fujiwara armbar in honor of the man who popularaized it.
