Did you check if the mod is ticked in your in-game Addons menu, and that it's not conflicting (coloured red)?
This is correct, yes. I went mad back in the day with all my Pistol scripts that use Magnum ammo, specifically because I liked L4D2's gibbing system, and pistol/SMG ammo felt like shooting paintballs. Since I found out how to borrow headshot gibbing from the Realism gamemode and stuck that into my Dead World Gamemode mod, I made the healthier balance decision recently with my preferred Pistol mod to rather keep the original ammo type, since oneshotting Commons with an infinite ammo, fast-firing backup weapon inherently overlaps with the Desert Eagle, especially the Gritty Realism one.
Yes, my mod only changes the weapon's scripts, so it will still work if you use any mod on the workshop to change the looks. Hope this helps. :)
